"The 1966 Gallaher 500 was an endurance motor race for production cars, held on 2 October 1966 at the Mount Panorama Circuit just outside Bathurst, New South Wales in Australia. It was the seventh running of the Bathurst 500 race and the first time that the event had been staged under the Gallaher 500 name."

1966 Gallaher 500 - Mini's Galore !
Re: 1966 Gallaher 500 - Mini's Galore !
I was going to post this the other day, but found it was already on the forum viewtopic.php?f=4&t=8115&hilit=bathurst
Still good to see though.
It does give me an excuse to post up some of my recent auction finds from last week.
Both of these items are limited editions of 3000, so they should be easy to find on Ebay.
First up is the winners car
Second is a diorama with the 2nd and 3rd placed cars
There is also a Code 3 Dinky version of the winning car, which is a bit harder to find.

If you had it would be a pretty tame car today. Show room stock was not an idle idea in those days...careful blue printing was about as far as it went. and top placed cars were significantly disassembled and checked before the winner was announced.
The winning driver thought the factory cars were a little wanting when compared to his club car. So, after the cars were retuned at one of his mate's workshop he had some trouble to persuading his Finnish co-driver as to which car they should have. The choice proved to be a wise one.....
As well as the one shown, Scalextric make a very nice slot car..unfortunately mine's well packed away so no photos at the moment.
Cheers, Ian
