1964 Monte Carlo Rally

Something which has always puzzled me is the picture of 33 EJB on the Monte circuit in 1964 with no rally plate on the bonnet. Does anyone have an answer as to why?
The only photos I have with the rally plate missing were all taken on the race circuit at the finish - perhaps it was to save weight! It re-appeared at the prize giving soon after. All the many other photos I've seen do have the plate fixed to the bonnet. But a good question never the less.
