i want to have a run at Pikes Peak Hill Climb in the states before i get to old (well ok,,, maybe before i get to much "older") , what do you guys think?
I`m Building a 4x4, 300+hp, turbo injected version , should end up at a similar weight to this one (250kgs)

Well done Matt, but you will have to try harder. 6th is a bit lower than I would have expected
How did it actually handle, I assume from your finishing position quite well
How is the 4wd version coming on?

yeah well, i was just tooling around, ( wet & all ) & they`re not my wheels/slicks , i borrowed them from my mate Stewy, i didn`t really want to bin them
all damn good excuses tho ey?
Handles sooper dooper good, really neutral,,, i still havn`t been able to step the back out, nor get any understeer on the slicks (yet),,, obviously not driving it hard enough
definately need some 13" front wheels/tyres tho,,, in a straight line it just frys the little 10s
4x4 frame is underway, design was a bit tricky as we`re allowing for future mods... still need one of the later 2004, 05, or 06 injected engines to land in my lap, we have the turbo tho, been thinking about shoving it onto this first car
but i`ll wait

Having a go at Pikes Peak? Nice.
Try and get an engine management box that compensates for altitude, to keep the mixture right, more or less. And get some big wings, big big wings.
And small aircraft engine companies that use petrol engines for aircraft might know something about altitude compensation for the fuel mixture, maybe.

ah well,,, the engine went POP at the last practice meeting at lakeside raceway
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmE1kYeGPps
i wasn`t a happy camper (not enough oil in there)
my fault
But the good news is that we have secured & purchased an 07 injected engine now
we are just changing the wiring a bit to suit , add fuel return lines etc , mod the sump for oil surge baffle, re-set the cam timing (the chains in these R1 engines tend to stretch in a bit) & we should be up & running again in a month or so
Grafton hillclimb is next on the list ,once it`s running again
so stay tuned for some more in-car (on-car?) video action coming to a Mk1 forum near you
& pikes peak will have to wait till the new 4x4 turbo car is finished,,, & maybe i`ll have to rob a bank to afford the trip

New Injected 07 model R1 engine is now fitted & just a few more fiddly things to finish off & i`ll be back on the track
every damn thing with the new motor was way way different from the old one, so, changed engine mounts, clutch cable, throttle cable, fuel system, full re-wire, new extractors had to be made etc etc etc
can`t wait,,, another 30hp sounds good to me
had to move the engine mountings over 20mm & forward 20mm
all bolted in & "almost" ready for action once again
at least the old radiator fitted
