Apologies for the non-Mini thread. Hoping some of the brains on here may be able to help.Delete if it is too offensive but hear me out. For the 3rd year running my darling wife has managed to put petrol in to her diesel car. I gave her my old Golf Bluemotion 1.9 Tdi having covered 40k without missing a beat. 3 weeks later she has managed to put £20 worth of petrol in it (I swear she only evers goes over £6 when she is putting the wrong fuel in the car). Anyway to her credit thankfully she didnt start the feckin thing as she still fondly remembered how I turned the air blue on the previous 2 occassions she did this.
Anybody got any tips on getting the fuel out of this as the range of cars she has done this to is now vast (Audi A4 TDi with 600 miles on the clock, Focus TDci 21K FSH 1 owner)
It is a 2008 VW Golf Bluemotion 1.9TDi. Think there might be access under rear seat but I am guessing as barely ever had the need to go under the bonnet until now...Dont have a Haynes manual BTW.
Thanks in advance. Mark

Erm...I did that once

and my car's got the same engine! I put £20 in it aswell (only stopped when I realised what I'd done!) (too busy wondering which Ginster I was gonna get)
Anyway I brimmed it with diesel and drove it til it was half full then brimmed it again. A couple of starting blips whilst this went on but has been 100% fine ever since. (about a year ago). A mate of mine also did this with his VW T5 with no issues. The main risk as far as I know with running it with too much petrol in the mix (in hindsight..) is nuking the fuel pump.

can you now just pull a rubber hose from somewhere even under the bonnet and just turn the ignition on and let the pump, pump it out into a container,
edit ( then just read petes message about nuking the pump. )

Hi , do as Pete says, back in the eighties when winters were colder when driving in Germany in my truck this was standard practice to add 5 to10 % of petrol into the tank to stop freezing up or waxing as its sometimes called, now we have summer and winter fuel for colder climates , anyway good luck

I agree with the others. Brim it with diesel and you should be ok.
BMW used to state in their handbooks, that you could add 10% petrol in winter.
(And it's probably how they make winter diesel anyway...)

I would try and get some of it out if you can, and it might be an idea to add a small amount of 2 stroke oil to the new diesel.

It depends on the ratio , If it was nearly empty , Then do what Pete and the others have said fill it to the top run it for a bit then fill again until its diluted, If it was say half full then try and siphon some out , I think what Pete meant when he said it would shag the fuel pump, Its the injector pump , the fuel lubricates it !!!!!!!! .They are sophisticated these days and bloody expensive so beware !!!!!!!!!!
The winter formula used to be up to 25% paraffin to stop waxing , The engine would run slightly warmer ,but as mentioned its all the same now summer/winter same grade , so they say !!!
Good Luck

Thanks everybody. Will report back and then close the thread. I thought I might get lynched for that little enquiry.

Even with anti-syphon devices you can usually get a small hose down into the tank if you're patient.
Take out as much as poss and pass it to me (my '61 woody goes REALLY well on a petrol diesel mix - guess how I know).
Many modern diesels begin the starting process as soon as you unlock the car, so some fuel may have been drawn into the system.
I guess having drained the tank and brimmed it with diesel, you could then pull that pipes off under the bonnet and pump out a pint or so of the contaminated stuff without knackering the pump.
Next time buy her an electric car !

managed to put petrol in a diesel bmw mini in the netherlands by carefully bypassing the safety system with a couple of screwdrivers to get the petrol pump nozzle in the hole - filled it right up put the green cap back on and then OH FK- the dutch AA guy was totally bewildered how we managed to do this until we told him we were in motorsport business and it then sank in.
Daft i know but a diesel cooper S- frikkin stupid
