Where to buy an STR 930? The kent timing figures I've seen are well short of 300/300 and the minispares site doesn't list the timing.

Wasn't this cam supposed to be an updated 649?
From what I understand, it was made similar to what the
649's actually were, not what the spec was - hence the
reduced timing...
Apparently, many cams never actually had their "official"
duration and lift anyway, most were short on both.

Kent have replied to an email and if I understand it correctly, the timings are measured when the valves are 16thou off the seats.

I've not found many Kent Cams that were near their advertised numbers and in one case, a dual pattern cam which had the Exhaust as the Inlet and the Inlet as the Exhaust.......Ahhhhhh,,,,, give me a singlet with pockets,,,,,,

ive known people fit 'bargain price' 8 port cams into five ports.........
that does cause some head scratching when they are coughing back and not wanting to start

I have seen this happen to an Ex Works Mini (in the 80's) being changed back to 8 port, The engine and box was assembled sat on the subframe ready to drop the body on 2 days before a rally. I asked ""What cam are you running?"" he replied ""649 ive only changed the head""
He did manage to get it all changed and do the event.

Found this in an old Kent Cams book

Different again from the current figures. But if we measure from the valves leaving the seats surely then there is more duration than waiting until it's open a bit.
Anyway I think piper make the miglia cams. I'd love to see period data for a Leyland 930 from the 80s

Try Piper , they done me a STR 930 to order on X drilled billet . 1293 split45s ,gives me 115 bhp at wheels on rolling road, idle 1000 rpm pulls from 3000 right to 8000 but drivable between 1 and 3000 suits me fine on road or track. R.O.S.

That sounds fantastic actually. Do you mean they ground it to your specs or just the normal profile but crossdrilled? Thanks

The BHP figure was on Southam minis rollers twice 118 in2012 and 115 on a very hot day this august . Piper will grid any profile the x drilling is for extra lube and life I hope !

Yes. There are few decent grinders about these days, and Piper is definitely among them.

I'm still interested in whether he has a normal grind or a special. So many engines to build, so little time money etc
