Just hi jacked this from MCR Facebook page, it's suppose to be at the comps in 66, looks more like maybe late 67 / 68, interestingly EJB still there 4 years on !

Re: Works Mini Pic at Comps ?
That's a great shot, not seen that before! Looks like early /mid '68 to me because RJB 326F was sold to Phil Cooper in '68, he was in it on the RAC (and did very well from memory!) . RBL 450F was used as a recce car and on the '68 Acropolis (looks a little wonky at the rear N/S corner?) and the plate was later stuck to a '69 works racer, LBL 66D is in the line up in Mk2 guise (did the Tulip in April '68). I can just make out OBL 47F before the pic goes blurry, NBL's a mystery to me though . I know interesting pics do turn up on Faceache (usually with absolutely no explanation of what they are) but I wonder where the original pic came from? Lovely.
Nice to see EJB with a Mk1 Action Day sticker in the window!

What shall we do with these used comp cars......just stick 'em out the back in a line, we'll swap all the plates over onto the new cars later

That's a Mike Wood colour slide, the original was a lot clearer!
The guy who originally posted the pic in the first post says he has some more :
"I've got a few. I work for the MG Car Club in Abingdon as the magazine editor. I know a few of the ex Comps mechanics etc, they have very kindly let me have copies of their photos. Saying that, this one was taken by an American visitor who was given a personal tour by Peter Franklin, Personnel Manager at the MG factory.
Unfortunately this building is no longer there ."

it looks pretty ramshackle in the photos.Pete wrote: Unfortunately this building is no longer there ."
I cant imagine a 'works' team working from an old chicken hut now-a-days, it will be all polished white floors and what not!

Re: Works Mini Pic at Comps ?
In my experience the works boys in the 1960's did believe very much in cleanliness and attention to detail not just a quick valet during a service. The works department picture looks just as clean as a modern clinical environment but not white all over, times change. I'd much rather have a clean working environment inside a chicken shed and a clean engine bay after a service rather than sparkling exterior bodywork and interior, which I pay for in the service cost ! In the 1960's I think the works mechanics were not "Fitters" in a clinical environment as they are now. I have visited Prodrive twice and their attention to cleanliness is impressive and their personnel are mechanics not fitters. Having worked at Prodrive and now F1. I Think the mentallity is the same in the comps department back in the 60's as it is today, the difference is the paying customers and sponsors coming to see the workshop are more impressed with marble floor and white walls!

How sad the contemporary Prodrive techs can't put up girlie magazine foldouts to personalize their work bay...
They probably can't use salt or pepper at lunch either:(
Company rule.

Believe it or not when our work canteen closes for the day health and safety make them remove the salt, pepper and vinegar from the tables. None for you if you want to work late or nightshift!

As an (Ex) HSE inspector, I think I can justifiably offer that considered opinion. Seems likely they think the night shift are on the rob for the condoments!

Re: Works Mini Pic at Comps ?
They just did a risk assessment on a new lathe, which is identical to the old one. Now, only approved operators are allowed on it, and they came up with this plan where one of the engineering guys and h&s would approve the individuals concerned.
Imagine my dismay when I had to show this 3rd level educated engineer what each feed lever and handwheel did, in order that he could tell me what I should be doing. Much tongue biting involved!
Oh, and its claimed that someone might tamper with the salt and vinegar.
