I'm putting the interior back into my MK1. There are two alloy trim pieces that fit on the seat crossmember near the sills. However, they are handed and I can't remember which one goes where. I've tried googling for pics but can't find much to help.

Btw these are the diamond patterned parts not the strips that protect the door seals.

Does anyone have any idea which way around they go?

At risk of sounding silly, (not unusual in my case ) what makes you think the alloy trims are handed? To the best of my knowledge the floor to box section profile is identical to front & rear of the box. Sorry if this is not helpful, it's the best I can do.

They have different angles where they meet the floor. However, it doesn't seem to matter which way round they go as they fit either way. having said that why make them handed if it doesn't matter?

a distant memory tells me that they are handed, as the floor tapers back to the rear.

years ago I spent ages trimming one down so it fitted perfect, then discovered to my horror that the other one didn't fit either...........ARGGGG!!!!

Thanks Rich that makes sense. One 'leg' on each trim is corroded and as such is not so deep, I guess that goes to the rear.

Partsbook tells they are not handed. Right and left has same partnumber.

No need to apologise, it may well be the case that someone else had chopped them around to fit a dodgy repair.

I don't have access to a parts book, are they available as a pdf file somewhere?

ive got some of those alloy things somewhere, will dig them out and have a measure
