Panel Gaps

This car didn't hang around long,no surprise looked really nice.

One thing I noticed was that the seller stated it was the original shell,I was wondering if the bonnet/wing gap was representative of all factory work (you wouldn't be able to get a Rizla paper in that gap !). If it is,as Scotty says 'We're doomed' !!

never been welded
they must have pop riveted those cover sills on then................

I've heard it said often that factory panel gaps weren't all that good from new and I know there were dealer fixes for poor door fit but from all the evidence I've ever seen from original unrestored cars and contemporary photos they looked consistently good. That car's obviously had work.

I saw the car at the weekend and it was listed as 'unrestored' which sent all around looking for evidence
the paint and sills were quickly noticed, I guess it comes down to the interpretation of 'restoration' whatever it still looked a fairly nice car to a lot you see.

Definitely got the old syndrome of the bonnet sitting proud of the wings at the headlight area.
Front panel to wing gaps look like there is a bit of sculpting with some filler going on hard areas to make 100% perfect.
Boot brackets to rear panels looks a little suspect can't tell if it's plug welds not fully ground down or corrosion from between the bracket and the rear panel
Splitting hairs really looks like a good wee car
The problem is the seller may well have been sold the vehicle as supposedly unrestored plenty people wouldn't know the difference.
