Non Mini - Historic Kart

So, a month or two back after visiting the Donnington Historic festival I decided that my life lacked a Historic Kart, and that I should get one whilst they are still affordable.

The daft thing is, if the steering wheel was advertised as suitable for a mini, it would probably sell for more than I paid for the whole thing ;) but, the wheel WAS in bits!)

I need to get hold of a suitable Villiers 9E engine and 'box, and a 1" rear axle, but the rest of it is pretty much all there.

And yes, as a Class 4 gearbox kart it has a 197cc engine and 4 speed box, so should be good for daft speeds!

It's either a Buckler, an Erco or an early Barlotti, no-one is quite sure, but it dates from about 1960 - 1963 era

So I think I'll paint it surf blue.

Anyway, here's a few photos of it as I got it and as I start to clean it up.

Just need a period Mini van as a suitable means of moving it around 8-)

Will have a look for part numbers, but they are Fastakart wheels (The company set up by Barry 'Wizzo' Williams and his Dad. Wizzo is still patron of the Historic Karting club)

So there is a Mini connenction

And there's a Kart track at Blyton....... 8-)

Not much has happened with the kart recently, as I was needing to get hold of an engine, and this week, this turned up. It's a 197cc 9E with the right positive stop 4 speed box, high compresion head, the right Amal carb etc. and as it came out a kart, it should, theoretically, be easy to instal. It's my first 2 stroke, so a bit of a learning curve, but as my pal pointed out, they are incredibly simple.

So, full steam ahead! (well, probably not as other projects are taking up my free time, but you know what I mean  )
