Has anyone seen this type head casting. 12g940 is cast in the head behind the thermostat housing.
1.4 valve 11 stud thanks

I've seen quite a few different castings (about 7) but not that one!

I'll add that to the collection!

Can I suggest cleaning up around the thermostat area, top and sides, there might be a part number stamped in it somewhere.

What about the 940 small valve casting which looks like the AEG163? I've seen them on a couple of 1100 engines, the ones that have the "1100" cast number in the block (unusual too). Which cars had them?

I think these would be the South African blocks, happy to be corrected on this. They were de-stroked 1275's but had a few other detailed changes too.

I don't think the SA blocks had 1100 cast into them (wheres sean when we need him!), but they where readily identifiable by having the marina type oil filter that points upwards (like the mpi).

dont forget that the SA block could be converted to a normal 1275 simply by using a 1275 crank and normal pistons, so it wasn't technically an '1100' block

Here Tim LOL.

Yup - SA 1275 and 1100 blocks were identical, thin flange Marina type blocks with no 1100 tag on them.

Pistons on the 1100 looked like bloody tall 1275GT pistons, but with deep dish and 8.8-1 compression.
