Brass dampers

Hi Folks. In relation to twin H4 carbs does anybody know if I can use the Brass dampers without holes and simply drill them to suit my SU's? I currently have a pair of H4's but the plastic dampers have small holes. I think that the ones without a hole should be used on carbs with a small internal outlet on the dashpot body. Hope somebody understands my waffle. Cheers. Mark

Hi Mark, You are correct. Just drill the little holes yourself if you want to use brass dampers. Most H4's do have the internal drilling though, so this is not essential.

"Top Tip" for drilling brass?

Brass is a very grabby material when drilling. I found this out for myself
many years ago and asked an engineering friend what I should do...

The answer was to take the sharp cutting edges off the drill using a
couple of strokes of a diamond file. This causes the drill to act more
like a scraper and stops it from digging in.

With the small size of the hole in the damper top, this may not be a
problem, but if it is, there is a possible solution.

Also brass being fairly soft as well

use a center punch on it first where you want the hole helps guide the drill bit down
