Hello All...
A friend of mine is writing a book about the story of the Formule 3 1000 cm3 era (1964-70) with chapters about races, drivers, chassis, engines.
He's got a big problem, here in France, there is nothing in the contemporary. press on specs of the 64 BMC A engine, although it is an important one, winning all races with Jackie Stewart.
So? An XSP's Eddie Maher engine? 998 cm3? based from Cooper S? Junior? Specs? Power?
We need your help and your knowledge! If you have press cuttings too...

As far as I know they were basically 999cc which was a 970S stroke & bore (Plus 40) 649 cam, dry sumped in most cases.

JYS's engine was supposed to have titanium rods. One of the the advantages over his team mate was that the team mate around 6'3".

They had titanium rod , magnesium pistons and a gear driven cam ( no chain ).

Fantastic bits of kit , Built with no expense spared , no one had titanium rods in F1 at that time .

My SU Carb book says that they used an HS6 carb.

BUT:
The needle was a UVP, which is a 125thou jet needle.
This must have meant that the jet assembly on the HS6
was modified as they normally take 100thou needles.

The carb spring is listed as a "Red" (4.5oz)...

But still had to give best to an MAE unless JYS was driving...

The 8 port 970's run by Vita & Arden also used Titanium rods & blocks with fancy plated surfaces to reduce friction.
