what are the 2 extra holes for on the intake side of my hs4?

They allow the air to escape from above the piston, as i rises.

they are the vent holes of the vacuum in the dash pot.

if you block them up (by fitting the gasket upside down) the dash pot stays raised up / returns very very slowly
