Hello

Post by Se7enthHeaven »

Recently came across this interesting forum whilst browsing t'internet about classic mini's.

I don't have a restoration project on the go but a recent bout of nostalgia has led me here.

My first mini, a B reg (trying to recall the VRN) '64 850 was given to me by my parents and I first drove it illegally on the road before I passed my driving test.

Then had use of another 850 - not sure of year but seem to recall a VRN of "67 GLR"

Did a bit of free Saturday work for Keith Dodd at MiniSpares for a short time back then.

Then '69 Tartan red and black 998cc Cooper - "HNK 777G". Loved that car, even if it was hydrolastic.

Had a brief but exciting foray in Mini7 racing in early 80's which scratched a serious itch before family commitments and loss of mojo meant an end of classic Mini ownership. What a disappointment that feels like now.

No hands on car maintenance for many, many years, all the tools have gone, but missing those days of taking cars apart. Never any good at bodywork though.

Very, very tempted to get back into classic mini ownership. Don't have access to garage though.

Got a family friend who lives in Singapore but has a 1275 Cooper S, garaged around the corner from me (very good condition). Not totally original he says, but might persuade him to let me look at finding out what is not original. Might seek some opinions on here if that's OK with you.

Regards,

Gary.

That seems right. Memory a bit hazy. I sold it to a mate at work because I had bought a Mini7 racer around that time and needed a tow car. It was in OK condition but I think he may have written it off. I left the company in 1981. I had replaced the rear subframe and I can admit now to shearing one of the mounting bolts and sticking the head of the bolt back on with Araldite
