I always use recorded delivery for anything that's going to sting you if it gets "lost" in the post, V5Cs especially. Prevents you getting speeding and parking fines aswell as being screwed for late notice.
Just to play Devil's Advocate for a minute, imagine how many bozos per year claim their V5C has been lost in the post when they didn't send it at all.

I sent the V5C for the Traveller complete with a headed invoice for the replacement engine to DVLA 4 weeks ago.
Had a letter back today informing me that I had to send them a headed invoice re the replacement engine. :o
Straight on the phone and spoke to a guy who apologised, then instructed me to send in a copy (which I had the foresight to do). He would then "log" the case and ensure that the new V5C would be sent back ASAP.
The best thing about all this, if there is a best thing is, at the end of the letter from the DVLA they asked me to send my V5C to them.
Obviously, I haven't got it because I have already sent it to them a month ago. :?

Since all the local offices were closed by Mr Osborne the DVLA has gone into total melt down. It seems that everything is done late, a huge amount of stuff is lost & what is done is usually done wrong.

I am sure that there will be a furrore about this like tghe one about passports in the very near future.

Closing the local offices has turned the DVLA from being a (relatively speaking) friendly efficient, helpful service, to being a bunch of dead eyed Welsh idiots overnight.

Always keep copies of ALL documents you send to Swansea - car or driver related.

A lot of troubles lately with new driving licenses "losing" old entitlements eg motorbike.

My V888 & V5 applications have been dealt with much quicker than expected over the last two months.

Maybe just a good time of year to get v888 requests sent
