Centre Binnacles

Post by sclemow »

Are there differences between the mk1 binnacle surround and later ones beyond the holes for the 4 stainless screws?
I managed to crack mine and could modify a later one ......

Does anyone have any good mk1 3 instrument surrounds around?

Cheers

I think that the main difference is the internal plastic struts that replace the brackets for attaching to the speedo on Mk1 ones (hence the lack of the 4 screws in the face)... The internal webbing that's molded to produce these does alter the look of the later ones in my experience - you can see vertical lines in the face of the barnacle.

I guess you must have seen the very good repros that Bob on here does? ;)

Bob's repro ones are absolutely perfect!!! in every detyail, absolutely indistinguishable from the originals. Fitting a later MK3 one is possible, but as has already been pointed out its not identical by any means. By choosing the binacle you use you can get quite close though.

My suggestion however would be to buy the real thing off Bob & forget about botching it.
