Tunnel clearance?

Will there be 'enough' clearance in my 1967 'transmission' tunnel for a remote control gearchange (currently wand lever)?.............read somewhere that clearance is minimal for remote and exhaust!

the fitted them at the factory like that for nearly 10 years, so you shouldn't have a problem...... :lol:

I have no first-hand experience with transmission swaps but I thought the clearance issue was not when fitting remote shifts to early cars but when you try to fit the later rod shift boxes to early cars, particularly those with larger diameter exhaust pipes.

I have a mk1 that ran a later rod change gear box and a 2" maniflow, there was no clearance issues at all with it,

I fitted a rod change box to my 64 and it was very tight with a 2" box. To the point that the "lump" contacted the exhaust. I've forgotten what caused the problem, but something moved and the exhaust shorted out the floor start.

I would always rig up the floor start to switch a low current solenoid, rather than the full whack. The battery boiled and I burned my hands disconnecting it.

Not sure if the earlier cars have slightly different floor pans.

My latest one is going to attempt to get a big bore 3>1 and maniflow reverse cone system in there with a remote (66 shell). I'm wondering whether I'll have problems with the hardy spicers.

It looks like it will be tight.

if the car is a floor start, then it might be an issue due to the location of the starter switch and the wires.

my car was key start, so just had the straight run of cable

I thought all the mk1/mk2 floors /tunnels were the same . 850 and Cooper ? But i stand corrected

As the Cooper has a remote with a bigger bore exhaust and no floor start ?? and no issues

maniflow make a little bit of bent link pipe for mini with a remote and a floor start.

i have a free flow manifold to a rc40 back section, this link is only 12" long flanged both ends, it connects to the free flow, has a bend to get around the floor start, then the middle section needs shorting enough to allow for the link pipe.

they make the link pipe for free flow or LCB.

or if you order a complete exhaust and state that you need it for floor start and remote, you get it with the mid section already shortened and flanged, and the link pipe flanged to fit the manifold.
