The Gasket is Custom Made to my CAD Drawings of the bock by cometic. This is necessary because this motor is bored to 74 mm and the pistons are almost flat top with such tight head to piston clearances the piston would clip an standard BK450 gasket.

The timing chain as Neil says is Swifts latest Simplex setup. as we all know the more weight removed from a reciprocating mass the more free power is made available the chain is perfectly tight with out a tensioner which is where we want it again a tensioner will cause friction which in turn will sap power. Building a race engine is a lot like shopping in Tesco "Every Little Helps"

Verry Nice project!
How did you make the plug in the block for the dry Deck watertight?

Kind regards

Some more progress!

After some fettling with the gearbox to clear the ARP studs and nuts on the main bearings and a LOT of fettling with the Webers, the engine is now fully assembled and almost ready for installation :D

Ha ha Do ya like that Riche, the f***ers in SIP discontinued the Pedal for my machine so I had to do a bit of on the fly thinking. It looks very crude but works faultlessly. As you can see from the picture the pedal is operating as it naturally did in the last mini it was fitted to flat to the floor lol 8-) 8-)

UPDATE!

Engine is in and running. Brought it out for a short test spin on Saturday evening and I'm still buzzing  :D

There's still some engine bay tidying up to do and then off to the rolling road for proper tune :D

A lot has happened since my last update.

Engine failure, new engine, new steering wheel, wiring loom fire...probably easier to check the last couple of updates on my website - https://granbymotorsport.wordpress.com/

So sorry to read about your engine woes!

Just goes to show how essential a rolling road session is, particularly on a highly tuned engine.

These things are sent to try us & I'm sure you will laugh about it one day.

Cheers Mark!

I'm not too upset - these things happen.

I'm hopefully back on track to start a rebuild in the next month or so.

I notice you using a rod change box, did you make up a mounting bracket for the rod change support or is there one you can buy ?

It's just a standard rod change unit Billy using the standard rubber mounts with holes drilled for mounting on the tunnel!

Not sure if the hole for the stick is in the same location for a remote shifter as mine was done before I bought the car, but I'm guessing it is!

Billy cooper, I have a rod change linkage from a 71 clubman and it was 'factory' made to fit the round tunnel. The only one I have seen. If you would like to see it, I have a picture.

Fascinating thread..but did u ditch the split Webbers for SU,s ??..nice to see the engine and ancilliaries painted correctly.. I had a total rebuild done badly once .. u learn who to trust if u cant do these things yourself...then had a proper job done ..Piper cam, highly modded head,crank,H4,s,qual high lift roller rockers an endless list ..then all lightened, balanced and rolling roaded by Peter Baldwin.. result ?? 8 years of bombproof trouble free driving apart from a bit of work on the clutch...fingers x u get it up and running asap.. foxy52
