Thanks Roger and Peter
Well I'm not sure the next one will either be as bad condition wise as HOY or will it be done to quite the standard that its really undriveable for fear of spoiling.
As has been said a few times to me now 'yeah right, we all say that !'
A book is a great idea, maybe give it some thought in the dark winter evenings.

HOY has got to be one of the most challenging, interesting, honest and successful renovations that I have followed. Credit to you Andrew.

A stunning restoration

Particularly when considering what you had to start with! Just those final little snagging jobs now Andrew
You should indeed be very proud of what you have achieved there.

Certainly was a challenge ... just hope drives as well as it looks
I think being open and honest was the only way to go on this one, otherwise everyone would have just said it was a re-shell job once finished.
Nidge, the Black Mk2 is pencilled in for a big overhaul next, not sure how much it needs but do not plan a full restoration on it. But I have got my claws partly into another Mk1 S. Luckily the shell is nowhere near as bad as HOY's was

I bet you can't wait for the first proper drive! It really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks though, you know what's gone into it and how genuine it is

HOY drives
After doing the tracking this morning, it has been a dry day so thought better take it out for a 'gearbox check'
Very happy with the way it drives, lovely suspension and very smooth. Gearbox is excellent, engine pulls well for what is a basic set up (not dyno or rolling road).
Only issue was the speedo has packed up. Did work briefly. I dont think it's the cable soil have to come out, be tested with he old drill in the back trick and if it doesn't work, then it'll have to go away to be fixed.
Other than that, I'm very pleased.

Well done Andrew quite a monumental time after all those years ago when you told me you knew of an old neglected s that the owner would not let go to now have it running in what really was not a long restoration. Gray

A great step forward Andrew

. I well remember the first drive after restoration of my own "S". I took it very gently, listening for strange noises and keeping an eye on the gauges!! There are always a few teething troubles: Bound to be after such a huge task, but WHAT an achievement in, really, quite a short time. Can't wait to see HOY in the flesh.
Right. What's next

Thanks for all of the comments, they are very much appreciated
Gray, it is a LONG time ago that I told you of this car, that is very true and to be honest I never thought I'd get it. If only I could have bought it at that time I'm sure it wouldn't have been half as bad. It was because of this I built 9748KO as an S replica and that has been on the road since 2006, which I bought in 2000 to restore and sell to fund buying HOY.
With luck then next one could be coming along in the autumn but we will see.

Everyones been an avid follower of Andy and HOY's rebuild/restoration. It's been my weekly fix of opiates almost!!!!!!! Talk about work schedule, it's alongside Doc Mabo's Broadspeed and Daz's Cooper, It's like we all own it. We certainly know every twist and turn and intimate detail of HOY now. It's the Mk1 Performance Register Forum adopted son. Been an absolute pleasure to follow. Even my non-mini classic car pals locally are following it
I'm sure that very soon, just seeing it close up will be the Mini Cooper S equivalent of a pilgrimage to Lourdes
