I think you’ll find it’s ‘Primrose’

3 rows each of 28 primrose coloured mini's, presumably for export, illustrates what went wrong with BL. Fancy thinking anyone would want a primrose colour!!!!!!!

It was. Both Fiesta Yellow & Surf Blue failed to sell in period.

I’d happily have an original, unmolested primrose City - much rarer than a common-as-muck mk1 S

Dad bought a new Mini in 64, and the one he bought for a heavily discounted trade price was ..... Fiesta Yellow

Primrose yellow sounds more exotic on an E-Type, there are two round here in that colour! Fiesta yellow is definitely more common at Mini shows now that it ever seemed to be when I was a nipper... it must have done wonders for the sales of Newton Commercial powder blue interiors

Like the district nurse Aqua colour of the late 60's/early 70's. The dealers, certainly Martin and Chillingworth and CG Browns in Newbury just couldn't sell them and eventually BL took them back and sold them at a BIG discounted price to the NHS no less. That's why some had basic 850's and others had 1000's..

I appreciate that colour tastes have changed from then but...... Does anyone remember that khaki colour? A sort of olive drab? Looks like you were about to advance into Stalingrad driving a mini like that

My mate has a very, very low mileage (under 3,000 I believe) one in that horrible colour.

Dad had, for a short time, an 1800 Landcrab in that colour back in the early 80's.

He also had a couple of Minis in that colour that he bought and sold.

Good old BL 70's colours

Before he moved to Auz in 2001 a mate restored his Limeflower '72 Clubbie, it looked fantastic in that much maligned BL colour.

A mate at work has an unrestored '78 Rover SD1 2600 in Avocado green...
(Surprisingly good to drive amongst modern traffic, it still feels like a big car).

Probably Tundra yes. Tundra would have been introduced around 1973/74 from memory - along with Bracken which was a duller "Bronze Yellow" for want of a better description. Both were used across most of the Austin/Morris/MG range for a year or two.

Yep, tundra, that's it. Told the story before but I bought a house here in the late 70's from a bloke who worked in Cowley. He must have stolen a hundred+ gallons of that bracken or harvest gold or even bronze yellow colour and the fxxxxxx lounge was painted in it - with bloody orange full length curtains. In fact each room was painted in one of those BL colours. I swear that I never really covered it after years of overpainting. You could always see a tint of it creeping through the old standard Country cream!

Round our way there were quite a few 'old banger' Mk1s spruced up in some of those colours in the '70s, I don't recall seeing any in the four metallic shades though (they look rather nice).

Yes, black tulip definately the colour of the era. To be honest, that tundra doesn't look too bad now. But not when one of your bedroom walls is painted the same colour!!!!!!!
