Roker ave Sunderland, with suitable Mini outside Dunns/Youngs garage. Garage eventually changing name to Byers Dunn Turvey and then Dutton Forshaw.

I would love that BMC Sign hanging in the window, sadly my time machine needs a new flint.

Cowies of Sunderland started at 19 Nile Street Sunderland renting wheel barrows at 3d a day ! Sadly the building is in poor state now with roof removed & scaffold holding it up and no indication of its previous owner.

Sunderland Police car, on show here for the Sunderland Echo photographer in December 1965 at Gilbridge Police station or Could be CVR Sunderland Councils Vehicle repair garage in Railway terrace Sunderland.
It was up to the late 1970's Sunderland Borough Council maintained all the Police, Fire, Ambulance and Council vehicles all within its own garages. When I started my Mechanics Apprenticeship with them there were still lots of old Mini Cooper S cars in the depot kept for parts etc etc.

Theatre Garage in Low Row Sunderland, partially hidden just in front to the left of the White Car driving away from the photographer. It was one of Sunderland Oldest Garages and had Sales & Repairs located within its building. The front was a small Petrol station with 2 Pumps that was manned from a little kiosk by an old codger who came out and filled your tank.
It closed in the Mid 1980's.

I've been searching for some time for a photo of North Heaton Garage in Newcastle Upon Tyne with out luck so Mrs Rusty took up the search for me. Within a couple of hours she had received the photos below from Newcastle library. Both were taken in 1965. The first one shows the garage and adjacemt housing still in tact. The second, just a short time later shows the houses missing their roofs. No doubt houses and garage were all soon demolished shortly afterwards.

I found a better photo of the Theatre garage in Sunderland, think its the rear of the building this one as the front of the building had petrol pumps. Also an advert for the same garage.

Sunderland actually had this Theatre garage in Low Row and two more converted picture houses made into garages, both operated well into the 1980s. Jollys garage in Coronation street and Villiers street garage.
