Rover V8 torque........ I had an MGB GT V8 for many years (it's now in Tassie) and used to teach physics. As bit of an afternoon fun/practical lesson that included physics and a bit of maths, I used to illustrate torque by showing how it could pull away in top gear and slowly accelerate away. Alas, the road outside the science block just wouldn't accommodate 132mph. Yep, that wonderful big Rover V8 knew all about torque. And it only ever got fed on UK spec 2 star petrol

Well the wee 997 may not have that sort of torque but it does pull quite nicely. The wheel hub/bearing is now sorted. It transpired that the central spacer was 5 thou too small. I had a few spacers (never throw anything out) from old bearings. One came close and some 2 thou shim stock made up the difference.
It’s no wonder folk complain about bearings not lasting if this is the sort of out of tolerance that can happen with new kit. I think I might check it all again in a few hundred miles.
Thanks for your encouragement and input.

You're right David. With a spacer .005" too narrow and the hub tightening up ....., 'it's only .005"....', the unwise will slacken off the hub nut a bit. Inner bearing cups are able to 'chatter' as we used to call it - and that's the start of end for them

I decided on the lamps at long last. I stayed traditional with Lucas 576s. It looks right I think.
