I think it just points to a very sloppy, half arsed job. Even the bloody boot seal is on the wrong way up.
This car is on eBay now-amazingly from two different dealers!!
One in Chelmsford for £16950,-and another in Bournemouth for £18950!!! Wtf?

It's a rough old pig isn't it?

I've got £3500 for it.

This one was at the London Classic Car Show a couple of weeks back with an estimate of £8,000-£10,000, it's now up for £6,000:

That will keep someone busy for a while although it looked like a genuine car, still had a 1979 tax disc in the window. Also a leopard skin steering wheel cover and a wicked switch panel on the driver's door topped off with a rev counter!

Is the rear number late treatment on the SWVA a common touch... not sure I've seen that done before on a 'correct' boot lid, guess it doesn't knock when you hit a pothole...?

My car came with the number plate screwed on just like that although it was level as far as I can remember.... Interesting arrangement with the battery isolator switch as well.

Funny how the boot carpet completely obscures any view of any boot board brackets on the rear bulkhead

Although to be fair the rear supports are there and presumably pre-date the 7.5 gallon tank.... Doesn't look like a Mk2 binnacle face either.

Went to have a look at the HJ Pugh sale today.
Early 850 engine with what looks like a zenith carb and cam driven fuel pump . Looks factory fitted but I’d never seen before. Anyone know what it is?

Agreed, some great parts in there, but also, as we would all expect a few surprises, no doubt. Does look like the speculators have “left the room” and project prices are settling out at sensible levels, finally.

That's bizarre. If it were not for the 8AM prefix I'd say it could have been a late pre production prototype. Zeniths were used on the 948 cc A35 and A40 and inline A Series engines don't work on a Mini gearbox as there's no flywheel tail.Any pics off the clutch lever stop nuts on the clutch cover? Early Minis didn't have one iirc.

Attached photo from HERE. It looks like a bog standard Mk1 mini engine, that someone has changed the manifolds and carbs from one of the earlier Austin inline engined cars.

Engine number decodes in AKD3502 to :
8AM - 850cc Austin/Morris transverse with synchromesh transmission
FAU - Standard fuel distributor, central gearchange
H - High compression
186066 - serial number

I have to say I quite like it - so many period extras - the high level gauges, the musical airhorns - so bad they're good! What is going on with the bonnet hinges (late bonnet fitted to an earlier bulkhead)?

You could still buy new Mark 1 shells in 1974 so someone did just that and built a car from it. I expect the shell was very cheap to clear them out.
