Not just minis that this is happening to, i saw the post about escorts, the same is happening to Porsche's as well.
My brother in law is mad into these, a few years ago was offered a early 70's targa 911 running but needed restoration for £5K,
the same money now won't buy you the rusty shell.

There is a gúy in Sweden who has been buying up Porsches for more than 20 years.

Its the Swedish King Gustav & his becoming wife Silvia.

The car was sold on, and turned into a race car, but will eventually be returned to std spec.

@ £6K (original asking price) yes it was pretty pricey, by over a couple of grand but I think the seller is putting alot of value on the plate (easy to do until you try selling one, it's actually probably worth squat) so that's skewed his valuation on it. It's almost a user looking at the photos, in fact it's worth more as a user that can be recommisioned and put back on the road but as a total restoration project it's a complete shirt loser at that price, you may as well buy a wreck.

It is a very nice original car. It's 99% rust free and original. Feb 60 build. The seller paid £4k for it.

Even at £5-6k and a refresh its a cheap original early MK1. The shell would cost way more than that to restore on a rust bucket and would never be original.

You'll find the plate is non transferrable, it's got a '63 "A" reg and car is a '61? already had a cherished transfer of its original 3 letter 3 number reg?

It went on in the 60's as much as it does now, my 1071 was registered with a cherished plate from new as by coincidence was my previous 1071 which was also re issued with a B plate like the one on Ebay.

Even greater shame, when a car is original (non reshell)

The only way for a car can keep its plate here, is if it stay registred, and the owner keeps paying insurance & roadtax ALL its life.

The reg no/plates is changed, everytime a car is sold on & end up in a dealer,s stock, for more than 3 weeks.

The new owner) can keep the original plate, if the car is re registred in their name with in 3 weeks.

the 3 weeks is the time, the insurance covers, when still in previus owners name.

The Surf Blue car looks a good starting point (depending on its final price). Some people will be put off by the lack of subframes fitted which makes moving it a bit of a task. Shame about the registration but I think the DVLA will still issue an "age related" 3number 3letter plate once it is roadworthy which'll look better than the "A" it currently wears.

Great colour too .

It'll be interesting to see what the red one reaches THIS time.

I think the surf blue car looks a good sound project too.

The registration number though could well be correct and original. 'AMG...A' was issued by Middlesex Licensing Authority from March 1963 to September 1963. The car seems to be an early Super deluxe (not Super) therefore the age of the car and registration plate displayed tie-up .

back to the sheffield 1960 cherry red car,,the car had its original glass bottle till recently and i had the seats out of the car when it was in derek bells scrapyard in the mid 1980s

if sombody on here buys the car,,ill gladly sell them the front seats..!!!!!!



it needs a lot more work than first appears and had issues back in the 80s ,i knew the car when it was on the road prior to "scrapping"

cheeky bugger!! i paid a tenner for those seats

this car was in a sheffield scrap yard in the 80s where it was promptly "vanished off the face of the earth"
then it reappeared 28 yrs later

I've taken some cracking Mk1's off scrap heaps before now, just shows you what was seen as litterally scrap in the 90's is a £2K restoration project now. Well when I say cracking Mk1's, they were if the bleedin crane man hadn't picked 'em up by the roof !

my white 59 was rescued off a scrap pile in 1978, scrapped due to a failed oil pump

the service history ,warranty and log book was thrown in the back,which is still with the car today.

its still had no underbody welding and still shiny white under the carpets
