Re: The JANSPEED Mini
Hi Pete,
its no secret that the car is finished (pics are only one click away) .
I got the idea, to this thread, after I noticed, that other people posted pics from their restorations, after they were done.
So I thought, why not tell the story in "real time" ? (5 years later ) now when I finally had got myself a computer
It was also an excuse to share som of the "new" photos, I found only a few weeks back.
Some I didnt know about, came to light, when we cleared my Mothers apartment.
I had no memory of her, taking pictures in the garage, when I restored it (not getting any younger here )

Not being electrically minded this pic scares me Jens.
Did you manage to salvage any of it for the rebuild.?

Hi InimiaD,
Now this is why I suggested that we swap favors just a shame I am so far from you .
Yes the wiring loom, is fully restored, and was put back in the car.
When it was hung up, oil was dripping out of it for a long time
Must have been some bang, when the turbo blew the engine
I found & contacted http://www.autosparks.co.uk/ who could supply the correct plugs/connectors.
It was actually not that many (a few was cut from an old wiring loom) I had kept, as spares.
I also took the 2 original W&P relays apart, and got them both working again.
The biggest problem is that there are no wiring diagram for a W&P Margrave
and even if there was, is my wiring loom rebuilt/altered, when the car recived the turbo conversion.
Thats why I wanted ALL to work, before I took the car apart (see post 4 on page 3.

JanSpeed will invite a lot of the old staff, on the day.
There is a guy on the MCR forum, who owns NAM 616G http://forum.minicooper.org/showthread.php?t=13639
His name is Ted, and he was happy, about your new info.
Nice to see, that people take care of these "big Mini,s" they are rare here in Denmark.

Late february
Top RH front corner of roof & Apost, showing the type of "repair" that was done
A couple of plates, attached with 4 - 6 spot welds, and LOADS of plastic padding.
R&L side innerwings, with more "repairs"
Almost no welding, only plates, attached with Epoxy, and covered with underseal.

Good morning JC,
Those are some really scary repairs, do you know if it was accident damage or just general rot.

Re: The JANSPEED Mini
Jens, now THAT is scary.
It's amazing how much damage a small piece of foam can do. Whoever it was at BMC who thought it was a good idea to put foam in the tops of the A pillars needs a good beating.

I had a story from a former neighbour to the Brandt,s .36inter wrote:Good morning JC,

Pete
He told me it had 2 accidents, when he lived next to them.
First one was when Margit was leaving the private parking house.
She slammed the brakes, when she should cross the sidewalk, but some idiot drove too close behind her, so the rear end was smashed
thats why I only have 2 of the very rare Wood & Pickett overriders. The whole rearend was changed, upto the parcel shelf.
Next one, was self enflicted, she drove too close to one of the concrete pillars, inside the parking house, so one side was smashed.
Last and worst accident was in the 80ies, after it had been converted at JanSpeed.
It was in for service at Rowland,s Auto, and the mechanic took it for a drive.
approching a roundabout, he lost control, and slammed into the grass embankment.
The car was severly dammaged, and the insurance wanted to write it off
The garage called the insurance company, and they send a guy down to inspect the car.
Once he saw it, he realized how special it was, and released the money, so it could be repaird.
They took off both subframes, and put it in a bench, as it was so bent, that non of the doors could close
I found the repairs from all 3 accidents when I restored her, there is a little crease, in the bulkhead, behind the front subframe
I also found the dents in the LH side when it was taken back to bare metal.
And when you take out the rear window, you will find a nice gas weld along the edge, together with a nice joint in both C pillars.
I also left the dent in the LH fuel tank, I belive that a car should be able to tell its story

Didnt think ANY rot to the body, would scare you you would have fixed this in a heartbeat
And yes those foam bits were not a "healthy" thing for a Mini body
Just wait for the pics of the A post, where the doors bolt on he he.
ALL was gone, never seen this before

Re: The JANSPEED Mini
Hello JC, looks like your car has had a really rough upbringing, a duck that has grown into a swan, your cars story should be titled "How to mistreat and abuse a Mini". I guess it would be about 2 inches thick in the end.
Keep the pictues coming.

Re: The JANSPEED Mini
Hi Pete,
Well not all abused her, Margit & Erik Brandt was very protective about her (exept for the accidents).
She was not only kept in a indoor garage compound, she was also driven by Chauffour to all celeb events Margit attended.
The lady who owned her from 1992 to 1999, had her waxoil treatet, and didnt drive her in the winter, where it was parked in her parents carport.
The last owner, didnt do her much good thou he drove her on the salty winter roads, for 1 or 2 months, before the engine blew up, and then she was left outside his parents house on a path of grass, and to make things worse, did the tyres go flat.
There were so much water inside, it was running off the windows.
Wish I had a camera with me, when I bought her.
Not a lot of pictures from now, and to March 6th, so here is an old one from february 2005.
You can see the thick WP carpets on the roof.

Hi all,
the calender says 6 - 3 , this was the day the body was finally "attact"
Car now turned around, to get more space around it.
Notice the nice "repair" piece (bottom LH corner of pic) this was stainless steel, poprivited to the boot floor, before a rearvalance was fitted
real anorak moment one of the original bootboard brackets, with its original BL paint still visible on the underside
