Re: 1973 gtm coupe
cracked on with the inner pillers - they look ok now, and a bit more finished than before
![Image](http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b331/guru_1071/gtm/DSC00824.jpg)
![Image](http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b331/guru_1071/gtm/DSC00826.jpg)
ive also got the front scuttle part properly glassed onto the steel tub - its miles more rigid now, you can just see the new bit in the middle, but it goes right round from piller to piller.
![Image](http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b331/guru_1071/gtm/DSC00829.jpg)
also got all the holes glassed and filled on the out side - i can then just re drill them as and when i need them.
![Image](http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b331/guru_1071/gtm/DSC00833.jpg)
ive also made a start on the rear cover - someone had cut the return lip out (to fit a pancake type filter i guess) - this had removed all the strength from the engine cover and the boot lid, so i had to remake the lip.
i started with the boot lid first
bit of alloy screwed on to make it hold the shape and give an edge (its upside down here - the black is the inside)
![Image](http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b331/guru_1071/gtm/DSC00823.jpg)
glassed up - note also the small cheeky repair on the body shell where there was an annoying chip in the edge of the engine bay!
![Image](http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b331/guru_1071/gtm/DSC00830.jpg)
the edge trimmed down whilst the glass is still 'green' and ready for a sand when it goes fully hard - job done!

Re: 1973 gtm coupe
Rich, If you are adding foam to add strength and/or shape anywhere else, don't use expanding stuff, but get hold of some medium weight rigid Polyeurethane foam sheet - it comes in various thicknesses and you can cut it, sand it, file it etc with hand tools, and it doesn't react with filler or resin, so you can just stick it on and get it to a decent finish.
It's handy for making moulds as well - you know, to make the recess or build up a flat area to take the cortina lights.......
It's a much more stable base than the expanding stuff.
see http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/allanbank/ra ... ndora/body to see how handy it is, although there are currently some technical issues with the website.......
You can get it on line fairly easily from surf board suppliers and modeling suppliers. If you need wee bits and bobs, I have a load in the shed and I could probably post you some if I was feeling generous

i used the expandy foam on the pillers as it was just to provide a bit of support for the glass inners that i was laying up - i couldnt use hard foam as it would have been a pain to shape it to fit the metal tubes etc that where in there.
i agree it would be utter rubbish for making moulds!

Re: 1973 gtm coupe
it's easy-peasy to shape - just give it a quick rub with the 'rough bastard' file- a bit like the 'oasis' stuff you use for flower arranging, only more resliliant.
I'm just thinking it would be ideal to use when you do the masive modsport arches that it deserves........
