Re: Gearbox problem
That's not a didn't notice issue, that's a failed to check issue......
Checking balk ring clearance on assembly, is, one of the most important things to do on a gearbox re assembly, gearbox builder is 100% to blame for this, and, should cover the entire cost of the re rebuild.....
Including not checking for C clip clearance, and, the damage done to the crank/flywheel/primary gear.......

Is that 2nd and 3rd gear baulk rings that are worn out?
Were they definitely new baulk rings?
Just looked at the pictures again, those baulk rings dont look like minispares competition ones, certainly don't look like mine do.
The competition ones look machined and don't have that radius on the outside edge.

Re: Gearbox problem
Hello Guys
Of course it was some new baulk ring ref C-22A1741
Yes it's 2nd and 3rd baulk ring.
What do you think of the metal filler on the edge of the gearbox
I'm fed up with the engine,
will be happy when it will be done...

Is that metal filler or is it some kind of sealant/adhesive?Charlynsane wrote: ↑Wed Mar 31, 2021 3:49 pm Hello Guys

I'd be tempted to remove it and see if its hiding any damage. It should just be a nice machined finish for the half moon seal to sit on.
Do you have a photo of the inside of the baulk rings.
What I can see at the moment they look more like standard baulk rings.

"""Also I would get somebody else to look at it instead of the company that rebuilt it for you.."""
TO ME,it looks like you should do that because person who rebuilt it doesnt know what hes doing.

Re: Gearbox problem
Could we also see more images of the baulk rings? Front and back views at least.
I also don't recognise those rings as Minispares competition ones but I'd like to see more images.
Also like Luis I would like to see the 1st 2nd Synchro hub.
The damage on the 2nd gear baulk ring lug is interesting. It may have become jammed.

Re: Gearbox problem
If the flywheel has been nipping the primary gear, causing the clutch not to clear properly, would this situation give the baulk rings a much harder life on each gearchange ?

Re: Gearbox problem
I let the gearbox to the engine builder, but I checked my mini spares account, it's supposed to be C-22A1741Lakeland997 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 31, 2021 7:18 pm Could we also see more images of the baulk rings? Front and back views at least.

About the engine builder, he normally makes some very good engine,
According to spoon, yes the clutch problem caused the baulk ring failure

Re: Gearbox problem
I am not sure that it was implied that the nipping flywheel caused the failure more a question of could it cause a failure ?
Now many miles did you do in the car with this problem ?
We've been selecting some used baulk rings for an ADO16 gearbox, and even worn ones on worn gears are providing 30 to 40 thou clearances, probably taken from gearboxes that have done 40 to 50k.
