As you say he was very pleased to see it, I am glad I got the the previous owner details when
I did!
I will call in and let you see it , as the car has a fair bit off Halifax/WestYorkshire history!

On a cold! quiet! lazy Easter Saturday afternoon with nowt else to do
thought I would update The Contessa story, the last couple of weeks
have been a bit busy! spent a few days with family in Holland, whilst
there delivered an old steering wheel to a member on here, nice to
meet you Kees! sorry didn't have a lot of time to spend, this week
had a photo shoot with MiniWorld, should be in the magazine soon
took a couple of photos with my iPhone,

Image

Image

a cold day up on the edge of Saddleworth moor, my wish to have the
photos done at Shibbden Hall where the original Brochure was shot, wasn't
possible ( gardeners don't like cars on soft grass :( ) this is the closest I
could get a couple of weeks ago,

Image

Image

Now looking forward to a couple of local shows, then a trip down to Gaydon
for the Mini and Metro show, then the next weekend Beaulieu MCR day
fair bit of a drive in the car, keep looking for another gear, the downside of
having a six speed daily :o
I eventually got most of my DVLA problems sorted! taxation class now Historic Vehicle,
still waiting for refund of cost for replacement Heritage Cert, its not the money just
the principle .

to be fair to the gardeners, everything is that waterlogged round here I think your mini would have ended up as a permanent garden feature if you had got it on the lawn!

Got some photos of another Contessa, although the car itself no longer exists!
believed to have been scrapped years ago,

Image

Image

Image

At the time it was owned by the father of one of my daughter in laws friends! and
apparently was previously owned by a member of the Bradford based beat group
Smokie! the photos are not very clear but the naked lady grille emblem (one of
Oylers trade marks can be seen and the higher rear seat back, twin tanks have been
fitted and it looks like CooperS 3and 1/2" wheels. As I am always being asked how
many were made, when at shows ect now I can say that I know of three :!:

On mine it should be in MiniWorld mag next month, article penned by a Yorkshire
writer so keeps up the Yorkshire story HaHa,
I fitted some new sliders to the sunroof last week so the roof now opens a bit easier
helpfull in last weeks summer weather,

Enjoyed some regal company at a local show last weekend, unfortunately it had rained
just before I took these!! so had to close the roof .

As I have said before when I first looked at this car I didn't remember anything about Contessa Cars!
after posting on an other forum, and Mab01uk Martin Bell coming back to me on what it was, the
dream when starting to restore it, was to get it in MiniWorld magazine,

Image

Image

Made it :!: a bit of Yorkshire history for the wider audience Mini fans to see, although I enjoy driving
it and showing it of 8-) the Car is the star in my opinion, and a nice one to Finnish on.

this is me and my first Mini 1968

The Mini I restored before the Contessa,

restored this a few years ago for a friend

restored this for another friend, just a few of a working life.

Thanks again Martin! for updating the Contessa story, first show of the year and a lot
of interest from the Mini and Classic Car press.
I drove it 3000mls last year attending shows, lets hope the weather is as good this year,
only got wet a couple of times, roof folded back for most trips

Thanks for updating once again Martin! not to take anything away from Mini Magazine they must have mistook some of what
I said at the show, I know of 4! the one on the Oyler brochure in front of Shibden Hall, the one that was pictured with the Tilling,
the one which was built for a member of the band Smoky! and mine .interestingly I visited Denton Motors in Otley a few weeks
ago the car was sold by them in 1980! the guy that runs the place was pleased to see the car and he remembered working on it
as an apprentice with Cox of Keighley back in the day, he confirmed that Cox,s had commissioned 22 cars from Oyler but wasn't
sure whether they were all Minis.
Its always nice to pick up bits of history of our cars, and keep thinking that maybe another Contessa will turn up someday.
