Re: South African 1964 1071 S
You sleeved the block even though it was only at +20 thou. What sleeves did you use for that? Didn't you have the bore it out to 73mm first to fit the liners?
My block is at +40 and will probably need to go to +60, so interested in why and how you sleeved at +20.
Cheers
Derek

Like I said, my aim was for originality, hence the re-sleeve to standard. I can not tell you about what type of sleeves etc as that was left entirely to the automotive engineering company.NZmember wrote:You sleeved the block even though it was only at +20 thou. you just cannot beat a 1071 engine!
people who have never enjoyed a good thrash in one just haven't lived!
We've spoken via email before. I asked you for information about twin H4 choke delete kit somewhere last year. I intended using them on this build but ended up swapping them (new old stock) with another RSA member of this forum for a vertical mount 1071 S oil cooler and pipes plus a standard set of Cooper S twin 1.25's
Thank you for the comments. Never personally been in a 1071 but I believe that it is a real cracker. Looking forward to getting this one on the road.
Francois

I was quite fortunate tracking down Cooper S parts all things considered. I suppose when people in the know learn about your project harts often soften and things become available.
I was not prepared top settle for a Alfa Romeo Bonaldi booster. It took some time but I finally managed to secure a Lockheed mk 1 booster. It was stripped, painted, plated rebuilt and is waiting to be fitted;

Probably one of my most rewarding finds were these South African Cooper S front seats. I actually bought them very early on; even before I bought the engine!
As they arrived; re-upholstered somewhere along the line;

With the later upholstery removed we found the original upholstery still intact underneath;

Both frames were shot blasted (some repairs were required), primered and painted;
With the exchange rate between the South African Rand and the British Pound getting increasingly ridiculous I decided (with a heavy hart) to forgo the Newton Commercial interior and rather have the seats recovered in genuine leather. Grey on black carpet I thought would work beautifully;

Nice to see all the pics Francois! Great thread and top notch work as usual
I'm also worried about those disks though. The surface on which the pads are supposed to rub looks very uneven (unless I got it wrong and you had them skimmed after the pic was taken?)
