Others in the auction were a Mk2 998 Cooper which was bid to £16000. The plate looks familiar and the sunroof didn't seem to hold it back

Late registered Mk2S did not sell, with an estimate of £25-30,000, and is currently being offered at £26,350. I guess the sellers reserve was £24,000.

Re: At The Auctions
Looks like a nice car, but I very much doubt it's claimed Downton heritage.
There are many things that identify it as a recreation, all be it a nice one.

I have rephrased my comments above, because the original ones were probably a bit harsh.

A mini does have an inline engine. Not a V engine, not horizontally opposed, not radial, not rotary, not W, not square.....Exminiman wrote:Like that, despite description saying it has an inline engine !iain1967s wrote:Nice internal tank woodie just sold on BAT

A Miura has a V engine just like a DB11.

I think prices have stabilised but don't see a fall anytime soon but the days of an instanteneous dealer price mark up is coming to an end unless it is something special.
What still surprises me on some occasions is the lack of obvious details on some of the cars that still sell well I have never fathomed people buying cars without researching the marque first and finding out from forums such as this what is correct and what is completely incorrect.

Re: At The Auctions
Just confusion between countries and transverse and inline in the ad, the Miura has a transverse V, the Mini a transverse inline (cylinder layout) over here if the gearbox is behind the engine(not underneath / by the side) it would often also be described as inline no matter what the cylinder layout, with 'straight' being used for the cylinders, so that would make a Morris Minor an inline straight 4 ! (sounds far more exotic than it is ), we all need to pop over to Piston Heads if you want to see how in-depth it gets with people debating pedantry on subjects

Matthewsons have a 65 Austin Cooper 1275 S coming up for auction on the 8th of Feb, looks like a nice car (to my untrained eye)
Reg number is DKL 661C

That car was on site at the last auction. If anyone is thinking of bidding I would give it a very good look over first.DB1380 wrote:Matthewsons have a 65 Austin Cooper 1275 S coming up for auction on the 8th of Feb, looks like a nice car (to my untrained eye)

Re: At The Auctions
Couple of MkIIs coming up for auction, with estimates around £10K these actually seem reasonable:

More details and pictures of the Brightwells Cooper here. Lack of vinyl on dash and upper door chromes suggests that this is a re-shell. Also the chassis plate looks like a new aged one.

More details of the SWVA Cooper here. A good looking car that you could drive around straight away and not have to worry about the rivet counters taking the piss.

I know which one my money is on.

Is the rear number late treatment on the SWVA a common touch... not sure I've seen that done before on a 'correct' boot lid, guess it doesn't knock when you hit a pothole...?
Cheers

What do mean? On the pi55 (high on the left low on the right) or without the hinged section?snoopy64 wrote:surfblue63 wrote:More details and pictures of the Brightwells Cooper here. I think it just points to a very sloppy, half arsed job. Even the bloody boot seal is on the wrong way up.

1071 S ‘kit of bits’ on BAT
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1964- ... cooper-s-4
It has some very rough patches and welding, cheap oversills etc. - all the usual stuff you’d expect from an old shell.
But if you look past the mess, it mostly seems to be what it claims to be - correct engine parts and trim for example.
