Hi everyone
Well, thank you. I have sent the past couple of days thoroughly enjoying this trip down memory lane. reading all the posts and recalling names. My father raced a Mini Cooper 970 S in the 1960s and then raced in the Mini 7 Challenge in the 1970s. His name way Gaylord Parker, but he preferred to be just called Gay. Attached are a couple of photos from the 60s and 70s, anyone remember him?
Regards

Hi MGRracer and welcome to the Mk1 forum. Glad you enjoyed this long thread and thanks for adding some great period photos. You might find more info/photos on your fathers Mini 7 Challenge days in the Mini 7 Racing Clubs 'Pit and Paddock' newsletter magazines, which have a regular "From the Archives" section feature in each issue. The link below has the magazines back to 2018 and are free to view the pages and photos if you click on the magazine covers:-

I expect your father raced with the late Chris Tyrrell who I knew well over the years when he raced in Mini 7 and the Metro Challenge.

Thanks for the nice welcome!
I was a young lad in the 70s and used to go to many of the Mini 7 races with my father when he competed. I remember the name Chris Tyrell and many of the other front runners. I would love to see more photos of my late fathers Mini 7, I have a few but not many. I had a look on the Mini 7 site and the years only go back to 2018.
I raced in the MG Metro championship myself in the early 90s and then occasional races with them in the following decades.
Thanks for your help.

Although the M7 magazines only go back to 2018 on the website they each have a feature at the back pages with old photos called 'From the Archives' covering the 1960/70/80's.
They have also produced these special M7 Archive mags in link below for each year since 1966 but I can't find them on their current website:-

Brands Hatch 1965 - Martin Davidson WER 113
Sadly I have just been informed that Martin Davidson died suddenly on 23rd February 2022.
Martin was recently interviewed about his racing days and his many memories of those times by MiniWorld magazine for an article that is due to be published in a future issue along with some great period photos of him in action in his various Minis.
Martin also did the Targa Florio a few times with their Austin Healey Sprite with Jack Wheeler.

Look at those tires! Can’t imagine trying to race with something that narrow these days.

That's a great shot, always look at this thread with interest.
I would love to know where some of these cars are today, appreciate most are gone, but there must be the odd one still tucked away...

Well, in actual fact these are very many photos each following the previous one in a so-called video
Video of the airport race in Zeltweg 1965 - Zeltweg is where in proximity to the military air base in 1969 the Österreichring (now Red-Bull Ring) was built.
I have made a clip with the relevant section where the Minis appear in the Grp2 Touring car race. If you like you can watch the entire video, but be warned it is in Austrian lingo
Also visible is locally famous Austrian medic, philospher, olympic swimmer, touring car champion and mostly actor: Dr. Gunther Philipp in his Ferrari 250SWB leading the pack.
