Q Early mk1 body shells had the 4 x 5/16 UNF studs positioned through the floor location 2off at Front Floor Pan & 2off in the Rear Floor .. they were fitted during production & remain unused when the car was finished assembled .. but what are these 4 x studs for ?
I though that maybe they were used to secure a Bodyshell to a Transportation Bracket maybe ?.
My reasoning ..
Father in Law drove a Lorry for British Road Services ( BRS) delivering Mini shells from Cowley up to Longbridge & i remember a story that he arrived at Longbridge with one Mini shell missing from his Trailer ?
He had to drive back the route & look for the missing Mini Body & fond it.. then get it back on the Trailer with his mate.( Driver & Mate back in those days in the Lorry cab )
Back in the day i do not think Bodyshells during Lorry transportation were strapped down.. they were located on the trailer just dropped on in a cradle & that was considered sufficient to keep the Body in position & secure for transportation.
I often saw these BRS Commer Lorrys belching out exhaust smoke on my way to school and the Body Shells of various BMC types they carried looked to me to be loose & shaking about as they were transported between various Factory sites.
