I cannot see how either of the designers/stylists who did those cars could ever have stepped back from their work and said, "Yes that is a great job, just the look I was after" It beggars belief that things like this are not cosigned to the trash before even leaving the doodle pad.

Really? It's no worse than a Hillman Avenger or a ford Crapi if you ask me. not that you are, but I confess to actually thinking the Marina is actually a pretty good shape, plain and simple just like me...................................

They are talking about the car in the back of the photo having questionable styling, not the Marina...

Although it does, like the Hillman Avenger or a ford Crapi (and nearly every other car built in the 1970's. Apart from the MK1 Golf).

Curious one - note says : BUYER WILL NEED TO RE APPLY FOR REGISTRATION AS IT WAS STOLEN FROM IT WHILST BEING STORED

I see Hertfordshire registration 4774 UR is still on the system as RED AUSTIN UNKNOWN MODEL...

....it's certainly a bitza so unknown model rather sums it up!

Unless they took the V5 and then registered it in their own name (which would be a pretty stupid thing to do) it doesn't matter if they physically stole the plate, it would still belong to the car, it could have missed computerisation though..

Downton Engine!

STARTING BID OF £3,900

For a collection of bits & bobs. Even after all my years of research & collecting Downton stuff, I didn't realise that they used Kent 286 cams!

That number "C586" is the assembly number from the factory, it usually appears on block & main caps, never seen it on a head before & never seen a Downton Job number that starts with a C either.

Don't get me wrong. I'm NOT suggesting that this isn't / wasn't originally a Downton engine, it's just that it is a long time since it has been a complete engine & a lot of it is missing.

The "C" could be for competition, or something similar, the chamber volume at 16.4 & the amount skimmed are certainly correct & the font style of the stamping is also correct.

I wonder why the seller hasn't shown any pictures of the combusion chambers though?

Coincedentally, if the capacity of the engine & chamber capacity is to be believed,
the CR of this engine will be in the region of 14.75 : 1 ???????????????????

It hasn't though. The registration 4774 UR is indeed registered to a Red 1000cc 1962 Austin which is on SORN and had its last MOT expire in December 2009 according to DVLA ;)

Anyone buying that should do an Hpi check to see if the car has any markers on it.

I am selling this on behalf of a friend who I sold my 1071S to , so this one is for sale. This 1960 car is tatty but genuine and remarkably solid considering its age . Early shells do seem to survive better .
DAS 440 Morris Mini registered 01 nov 1960 ....numbers match heritage certificate
