The MCR used to describe DJB93B as a recreation. When Acespeed were selling it recently it had a very honest description.
Pad4 is your man for BJB77B, though he hasn't been on here much recently. It's all been online before .

Yes. It seems to have been promoted doesn't it.
Amazing (worrying?) what difference a few years make.

What is the story behind DJB 93B. The MCR Club describing a car as authentic means nothing to me. I’ve a friend who has did extensive research on BJB 77B and will be posting his findings soon on Face book.
Messy springs to mind

Be interested to see the link Alan, when available, but the last thing we want is it all dragged up on here again, we have heard it all before, but pop the link up, might make some entertaining reading !

Just been sent a pic of another mini wearing GRX 309D. I understand that another car was built for Tony Arnold alongside his RAC replica.

I agree with what you said earlier Steve, we could all talk about this till the cows come home. Waste of time agreed. Everyone knows Paul Bates’ car is the original one is my view. There is another car over here which was bought in 1970 from BMC and the owner has the bill of sale and both the logbooks. A fake copy has been built in England and carries the works registration. It attends Mini shows every year and has been given the seal of approval from the experts as the real deal. The owner of the original car does not care because he knows his car is the real deal. The owner is an octogenarian and the fun will start when this car changes hand at some stage in the near future. The whole thing is messy and those who created this situation should be ashamed of themselves. In fact, I know for sure there are a good number of people uncomfortable with themselves over recreations knowing things are coming back to hunt them.

Very interesting, and delicate subject Alan, but I personally would like to know more about the particular car that you are talking about. As I’ve said before, the true history of these car’s fascinates me. Perhaps we’re going off on a tangent from the original thread..??

Hi Dave, firstly, I’ve said enough and let the owner and immediate family fight their case on this local car. It actually mystifies me why no one seems to care other than a few people. We are putting some forum members to sleep and that is not what we want is it?

DJB93B's V5 was applied for by a bloke called Geoff, a mate of John Kelly* in the late eighties. I think he worked on oil rigs.
It was used on a Cooper S rally car by a guy called Paul (can't recall his last name) who actively rallied it in the early nineties, a very quick car.
It then became what it is now using a very nice Maroon B 850 shell.
I worked at Mini Machine 1991-3 btw.
*Make of that what you will.

I posted this post restoration pic of Paul's car on another thread earlier, then realised that it wasn't on here, where I thought it should be. Sorry for the duplication.
It was also nice to spot a photo including Paul's restored car in this months Cooperworld
