Thanks to Pete for finding and passing onto me today this fantastic action shot of Paul's car on the Flowers rally. This came, amongst other interesting photos from an ex comps dept. employee who Pete has been talking to recently, and is believed to be a publicity photograph. There may be more period pics of Paul's car to come from the same source.......fingers crossed !
If anyone has any more info. relating to the attached pic. it would be much appreciated.

Cheers
Dave

It has been suggested that this may be a pre rally shakedown pic. Although the numbers are fitted, it looks like there is no sumpguard fitted, or rally plate on the bonnet. Also the tyres look to be road going spec. rather than competition knobblies ( note dark rims on the rear ), and the surrounding terrain looks to be very UK airfield / test area typical ????

I don't think I am out of step in saying that it "may" make it's first appearance after restoration at an old airfield in Lincolnshire early on in May ;)

Steve, the car is currently being worked on, with the aim to make it drivable within the next couple of months. I will be uploading some current photos in the very near future, as soon as I get them from Paul... ( come on Paul !!! )

Here are some current pictures from Paul who is still keen to get his GRX to Blyton on May 6th. Although the Abingdon engine / gearbox unit is complete, I'm unsure that the car will be driveable by then ???.........I was looking forward to a drive too :)

Paul recently applied for the Heritage Certificate for his car, which arrived this week, with the details displayed correct and as expected.

I wonder how many Heritage Certificates have been requested for "that car" over the years :P

That’s fantastic news and very well deserved for such a lovely, historically important and original car. Well done Paul and Dave!

Not bad for a ‘discarded shell’.....

Hope to see it at Blyton again, one of my favourite cars

Wow - before, during and soon to be after restoration PHOTOGRAPHS of a genuine works car , a history , a timeline and a record - Something that is missing from some very recent fake ringed works cars that have just appeared.

Good work Paul

The history of this car and its restoration has been very interesting so far, but must we put up with the axe grinding and back biting??? It really adds nothing to this excellant post and im sure does little credit to the people making the comments.
Keep up the good work.

It is sad to think of Dave Gilbert the Ex-Works guru and what he would make of all the nonsense of the last few years, he knew which cars were real, which had parts of real cars and which were just figments of the owners imaginations and the best of all was he didn't keep it to himself and hidden. If Dave hadn't been taken from us before his time this thread probably would not have started.

Keep up the good work, it is important to share information to help those who come after us.

what was the reason for replacing the shell when it appears to be so original and undamaged.

Have to agree with you Dave Gilbert knew ex-works detail and sadly now gone. I’ve a car Dave owned and over the years I knew him well. I’ve no axe to grind about ex-works cars and if asking for the truth is seen as backbiting it is fine with me. I’m not looking credit only honesty. This genuine car in particular was rubbished by people who own cars created from little or nothing and now in hiding and afraid to comment or tell the truth.

I'll have to fix all the photobucket f-ups at some point on this thread. I've converted the PDF to a Jpeg ....
