Up for auction with Bonhams this week is a 1997 Mayfair given the full Margrave treatment. Very low mile and had a titled owner.

Any views here on the value of a 1987 Wood & Pickett Mayfair?

I have a restoration project that I won’t now be able to do myself so may be looking to sell it on. It’s a one owner 1987 Mayfair with FSH and most importantly it is complete with the original Wood & Pickett build sheet confirming the original spec, which is still correct on the car today.

The car was brand new when supplied by W&P, with the date of first registration on the V5 being one day after their invoice was issued to the owner.

The W&P spec includes Recaro seats, wood dash and cappings, centre console, spot lamp grille, chrome arches plus front and rear stainless nudge bars. It also had metallic paint and an auto box as factory options.

As a one owner, genuine W&P car with the all important documentation I’m struggling to value it as there’s nothing similar I can find on the market…

Faded beauty: a Mini Margrave in Italy.
"The blue Margrave is fully deseamed and comes with ivory leather interior but - it must be said - is looking pretty sorry for itself, too. Palmer added: "It is necessary to make a complete restoration because it has many rust problems!" It is registered 'PGP 920Y', which tells us it is based on a 1979 Austin Mini with 1275cc power. Colour scheme and some details make it look quite similar to Elton John's car, but that was registered 'NOB 209M', which surely has to make that a different car..? Who knows more about this faded beauty?"

Jens Christian Lillelund writes: "Elton John's car was scrapped many many years ago - great shame he gave it away in a raffle. The glass fiber wheel arches survived on another coachbuilt Mini - not sure were the rest ended up? Some hoarder or on a fake car - who knows..?"

"John Sprinzel sold a lot of modified cars to the stars in the 60s, he produced this car for a Prince Of Brunei in 1968 at a cost of over £4K, twice the price of an E Type! Wood & Pickett did the work."

That is not a Wood and Pickett. Looking at the number plate I would guess that the car is from Malaysia, probably built by the gent standing next to it.

What a great photo from the passenger seat of a GT outside the Berkeley Square showroom.

Thought the mini on the right could have been 'Magic' Alex Marda’s Innocenti saloon but can see this car has a rear gutter chop.

University motors did some of those oblong headlight conversions and odd looking rear light conversions to their stocks of unsold MGC's and GT's My friend Keith had one in VW signal orange. A dire colour, even in the 70's

I was thinking about the rear lights, initially I thought they might be from the Lancia Flavia. Then I had a light bulb moment and have realised that they have grafted the rear lights and wing top shape off of the Vanden Plas 4-Litre.
