GT exhaust pipe....looking at what I have it is fairly small in diameter.
Was that standard???
I would have thought the GT may have had a larger diameter pipe.
It is 1.25" ID

Hi chaps,
Can anyone tell me what should be the proper appearance for the inside of the bonnet on a 72 GT? Painted bare metal with perforated sound pads? Or something else?
TIA
Jeff
Yes painted bare metal with perforated sound pads. Only 1969 and early 1970 cars had the fibreglass matting type insulation as far as I know
1969/ early 1970 in first photo
late 1970 onwards in the second

From memory the 1275GT rear tailpipe was a bigger diameter than an 850 or 998 but the rest of the exhaust up to the cast iron manifold was the same, so a cosmetic upgrade to your 850/998 back in the day was to fit a 1275GT exhaust with bigger bore tailpipe, even though the manifold pipe end was in theory 1/2" longer due to the taller 1275 block. I can't remember whether there were single and twin box versions as there were with later Minis but someone on here will no doubt know....

Anyone need one of these tachs?
Looks like it is for the early GT. Maybe someone could verify this.
Don't know if it works...surplus item.

Where do you start - the grille is painted wrong .. the interior mirror ...

However it should be remembered some owners do like to mod there Minis, sometimes in only small subtle details and not have every little thing exactly as it left the factory. Rows of bog standard better than factory fresh Minis at shows and in magazines like MiniWorld do start to get rather samey....

Indeed - and a very fair point and certainly applies to the wheels and mirror. But I suspect that isn't the case with the grille which is a mash up- painted in the late style (for cars with the black Leyland swirl logo in the centre and no GT badge) but fitted with early type Mini centre and GT badges....

What I say is this......., even with Coopers and S's being restored, is that while the car might not be exactly right in some small - and not so small details - at least the owner is trying hard and keeping another increasingly rare version of the mini on the road. Plus there's always the personal preference factor of course.
Personal preferences........ what the xxxx would I want 4 fog and spots along the front of my RC Sport for?

Looking at some old price lists shows how bad inflation was in the 1970's
In December 1969 at nice shiny new 1275GT would have cost you, including Purchase Tax, £833/11s/7d (£833.58 for those in decimals)
Price 1969 GT.jpg
Jump forward to June 1980 and you shiny new 1275GT now costs, including Special Car Tax and Value Added Tax, a wallet busting £3769.90
price 1980 gt.jpg
That's a massive increase of over 350%
