It will be hard to MOT it and keeping the same " time warp look "
You could always mask 3" up from the sills, and brush paint it with silver Hammerite ! Very period.
No answer from MS, must be working on his car again.

man alive its rotten!!
spent all day yesterday 'assesing' the order in which im going to have to replace various bits
most surprising thing i found is that the rear frame is perfect, its a genuine one with the part number stenciled on the back and a yellow star rubber stamp (for you annoracks out there!)
a lick of paint and it will go back in
thats the only good news so far

.
There are some pretty trick looking panels available these days that looks like a handy repair section take care of quite a big area.
I have seen the full floors with everything attached etc, but the above panel would take care of the usual vulnerable areas, quite nicely.
P.s. i refer to the sill assy and partial floor lol

its a well known fact that the best medium to repair mini wheel arches is lino........
been cracking on
in an ideal world this car would have got full boot floor, arches, full back panel and both rear qtrs.
im having to patch and mend, as i really dont want the costs to run away - this is a budget rebuild

Rich, You have some way to go to challenge Matt for the most radical welding session, but I suspect that old rusty could eventually take the prize

Rust jobs seem SOOO easy inhere

Hi Rich,
I have a question about the floor/sill section panels. How do you get to attach the reinforcing plate for the rear subframe mount to the inner sill when the outer sill is already in place? Was thinking of getting the same panels for one of our rebuilds but am unsure about this part of the job.
Keep up the good work.
Mike.

mike, if all your replacing is the floor/sill mini machine panel you would need to either go in through the companion box or the rear qtr to get in with a mig. - cutting a small access panel in the companion box would be fairly easy to repair afterwards
its not a problem on this car, the plasma cutter fairys have been a-chopping!!!

Hi Rich. Got myself an early van with lots of orrible metal that needs cutting out. What do you think of plasma cutters? I have never seen one in action nor how clean the cut is but might rent/borrow or even buy one when I tackle my heap? Really interested to find where to get one, how easy they are to use and I suppose if a reciprocating saw might be equally good? Would you e mail me any opinions or views on them please? Thanks. Mark

Thanks Rich,
Our shell has mint rear quarters so there not coming off! looks like the companion box route or take the last 6" of the outer sill off?
