Another transporter coming up for auction, not strictly period, but would turn heads going to a meeting and does have the benefit of a hopped up engine.

This looks like the one I almost bought when working in Newport beach CA. only it was yellow then? That's the sort of thing that used to tow the Aurora Gears team Minis around the country, ie James Palmer's ex Anita Taylor car!

What would the 6 wheel transport as per the Italian Job be worth?
I know where there is one sat in a dry barn which looks in really nice condition, my Dad recently bought an AEC Matador recovery truck from the guy

is it a Harrington coach though (as per used in the film) as there are only very few left - they where epically rubbish in period and most of them (rare in period) have shaken them selves to bits / rotted away to nothing now - they where a very cheap, poorly made body in period, and as a result never had a good reputation from coach owners.
there is only one fully restored one, and three of four that are part converted Italian Job replicas that seem to have been part finished for years -I think the people start them, realise that they have bitten off far more than they can chew and leave them, they are not the easiest, or cheapest, things to store as they are huge. (and you need a mental lowloader if you need to move one - I wish I had taken a photo of mine when is was loaded up, it was a serious sight for sore eyes, it was too long for the lowloader, so the driver had just lifted the hydraulic ramps up anyway and squashed all the back....)
its more likely to be a Plaxton panorama or the (ugly) duple, there was literally hundreds of these made, and the Plaxtons where a very well made thing, as long as they where looked after and not left in damp storage - the back 16" or so isn't supported by the chassis, so if the body is weak, it all droops away (a common problem with the VALs)
as for price?
scrap - 500 to a 1000
1000 upwards for a project
probably 8-10 for a minter of any body style (as a coach)
the coach people sneer big time at any transporter/caravan conversions and view them as no better than scrap, no matter the condition, history and heritage that comes with them - a very blinkered view!

I always fancied one with the slidey front doors that you could drive with the doors open - probably illegal now-a-days!

When i first started up on-site welding i bought a Transit of my mate for £40 it needed a load of welding to get it through the MOT, It was a ex Bakers Van, Bullnose early York Diesel with the flame in the manifold, OK it had up and over back door and wait for it passenger door was hinged and the drivers door slidey as you put it
, he had used it for carrying MAGGOTS ,It stunk , nobody would come near it or pinch it .Used it for a good few years ,A woman runs in to me, Insurance pay me £350 and i buy it back for guess what yep £40 and used it for parts and a shed, Goff
