Red Mist wrote:Really surprised that the anti-MINI attitude is still so strong after all these years (and that people can be so childish about a few photos).

At the beginning it was 'cool' to hate what BMW did to the Mini...but the fact is the German car has it's own cult following and has done nothing but increase the popularity of the original car which can only be a good thing!

For the 2nd year running I have missed the event and am very grateful for the photos people have posted...be it original Mini or otherwise. :D
...I think u may have a point about the BMW ( I cant call it a MINI anymore lol !! )..it prob has increased interest in the classic cooper and s though.......I personally don't get it either but some people love them??!! its just a car when all said and done and we all have our favs !!!...I don't like to argue but all are entitled to their own opinions,..i have to say that mab 01 posts some wonderfull info on minis.. I don't read stuff on the BMW though... each to his own..i must say this time I am glad I am not the brunt of an argument about minis v bmw,s......2 good forum members here to....for what its worth I hope xvl24 stays tuned so to speak..?! as its quite obv that he and mab 01 are equally as passionate about the brand/marque..!! ill let others be the judge.... foxy52

Jeez, that's scarier than seeing him in the shop - at least the lighting is dimmer in there!!

Guru - whys your vest inside out? Was it dark when you got up?
OCRAPS is maybe more fitting?

Getting a photo of a Guru in his natural habitat is about as rare as photographing 2 Unicorns having sex!

Well done!

Tim Harber sent me his on board stuff and I have done an edit, it's still 23 minutes long, but does features some offs and the Guru (twice no less).

So crack open a tin of your favourite beverage and settle down for some hot Mini action.

good video!

that poor French guy, the general consensus is that something must have broken on his car to send him off on such a sharp turn

Looked like the O/S front locked up, a bearing failure ?

Great footage Tim, good close racing and a nice illustration of Rich's flowing style there. (not his hair ,his driving !)

That pit stop can be costly can't it ?

Pete wrote:Looked like the O/S front locked up, a bearing failure ?

I think that just him panic breaking as he realised his impending doom, he seems to have one go at getting it straight, but it was carrying so much speed there was no changing it, bar he just straightened it up a bit.

a o/s bearing failure is just about impossible (bar bad luck!), as the wheel is never / hardly ever loaded up, or suffering from the normal issues that the n/s one has to contend with, I think if it had failed he would have noticed braking into druids as the pedal would have gone to the floor, but there was no change in his racing line.

I think if he had a suffered a collapsed o/s bearing it would have more likely shown up either just after graham hill or exiting clearways, where the car would have been loading that side up.

I think he was almost 'lucky' that it happened where it did, if he had got a similar distance around graham hill and speared off like he did, he would have been very near to the Armco where John Rhodes went off, and that would have been a heavy hit.

tim h is in contact with the guy, so im sure he will advise what they find.

the most important thing, of course is that he walked away fine from it.

I must also say, that having watched tims footage again, I don't think my brake lights where working

I must have pulled the wires off the switch when I was frantically undoing the clutch nuts mid race!

opss

Looking at Laurent Majou's off I think he suffered a rapid tyre deflation on the left hand rear.

The tyre looks to be flat when Tim comes round on the next lap to see the aftermath.

Rich, perhaps you had a intermittent fault as the lights are working here...

...but on the next bend they are not.
