TV chef and Mini Cooper Register member James Martin is going to be there with his two Works Minis as will Paddy Hopkirk and numerous other stars from Abingdon. There will also be a dozen Works Minis there to see as well as what should be a superb display of early 1071's celebrating 50 years of the Mini Cooper S - plus of course all the usual attractions, not to mention the Beaulieu car museum - all as part of the entry ticket. Should be a good day.

This is one of the reasons we are not going this year. . . a tv chef is being promoted before Paddy and the legends that made the mini what it is today. We should be remembering the works mechanics who made it happen and the people that have spent years writing about their knowledge so we can learn from them and keep the dream going.
One of the MCR's magazines was like a this is your life of James Martin! I've got nothing against him and met him in the past but all he has done really is throw a load of money at the mini scene and became an overnight star!
I totally agree with Mark and would like to say if it wasn't for this forum I would be out of the mini scene, so thank you so much Mark.

Just returned from Beaulieu. Great weather and nicely set up as ever. Admission on the gate was steep at £15 and quite a few people felt it needs to be nearer £10 on the door to make it appealing next year. The quality of the cars is remarkable. Trade stands seem to be getting ever lighter in terms of available old stuff but that was always going to happen. James Martin had a bewt of a Ferrari there but think he needs a new exhaust judging by the racket he made when he drove in centre stage. Nice to meet a few of the other forum members and thanks to those who brought some parts along for collection. All in all a good day out. Will try to add a few photos during the week. Cheers. Mark
Another cracking Beaulieu this year! Fantastic weather and it was nice to get together with a few other forum members last night in Brockenhurst.....a couple of the locals didn't take to us though!
Managed to get a few more bits together for VFF but like Rolesyboy says, available mk1 stuff is now bordering on being out of the range of man in the street restoration....£600 for a stainless wheelarch trim set and £900 for a Restall - admittedly very nice but no way i could ever afford them - nor could i justify spending that sort of cash on my car!
looking forward to a good nights sleep tonight in a nice warm bed!!
A cracking day I thought and I'm glad I booked an advance ticket.... some wonderful cars on display, many of which I've never seen before, I don't think I've ever seen so many Mk1s and 2s in the same place before - just fantastic and a credit to all the owners. Seeing them all lined up made me realise how much I miss driving my car. Picked up a few nice Mk2 parts on the way round and bagged loads of photos - only my second visit to Beaulieu but what a great atmosphere... roll on next year.
Great day , as usual . Some very high prices wanted by the traders for parts . Like 3 pin spotlight plug and lead for £400 . lol. At the end of the day these traders are not selling the stuff , people arnt that daft . Well maybe one or two
1963 austin Cooper s mk1 1071
1966 Austin Cooper s mk1 1275
1968 Austin Cooper mk2 998
1962 Morris mini super 850
Porsche 997 turbo S
Ford transit van 280s.
You are right Swifty. I saw quite a number of parts still doing the rounds at absurd prices. Some items were at Beaulieu last year and Bingley Hall. Wonder if they will reappear next year too
A great day out, nice to catch up with Pete F and Andy 'acespeed', plus everyone else, us upset anyone in the Rose and Crown, never, I'm blaming my 8 week old nipper
Great day out at Beaulieu, my wife, two young sons and I piled into the S and travelled down.
It's the first time I've been for about 15 years.
Met up with some friends and caught up with the mini scene. It's good to see that the MCR day hasn't really changed a huge amount since I first went about 30 years ago with my Dad!
It was good to introduce my 5 year old to it, and to the 'Wheels' ride in the museum!
I know what you mean about the James Martin thing, but you have to admit that Ferrari of his is beautiful it was great to see one in the flesh!
It was a great day and there were a lot of interesting people and cars,Mr Martins
ferrari had to be left running in the arena as it had to be bump started by a lady and 2 guys in the vip parking
Been feeling a little sketchy since Saturday night , but do remember having a good time in the R&C , it's never been so busy before Bulee ! The day itself was great, a classic Bulee experience with lots of cars out that rarely get seen. Nice set of 1071's on display and a whole lot more to look at. Not that many rare bits but a cheap enough set of mag Roses on offer (did look a little worse for wear though) and picked up a few bits and bobs. Some of the 'ordinary' cars parked up in the general parking were the most interesting to me and had a good natter with some of the owners. Fave car of the day was the red beat up 'as found' 1071 of Paul's which I'm sure will turn out to have some very interesting history.
Personally I think it's great that a TV 'celeb' gives up his time to spend at a club show, he obviously likes the cars.
I went. Didn't take any pictures. I am lazy and don't really go to any of the shows any more. Beaulieu it is local enough to me, so every couple of years I go and try and get some inspiration to finish the junk that has taken root my garage. I met Nicolas had a chat and saw his very nice Sprint and a beautiful (997?) cooper. Cars were spotless. 1ELY always makes me smile - I do like that one. Other highlights were a slightly scruffy Surf blue up the top of the field which reeked of old mini when I put my head near the sliding window to have a gawp inside. There were also a couple of French cars up the top, and I nearly missed the metallic brown Sprint parked amongst them. Anybody know about that one? Some nice coach built minis, more S's than you could shake a stick at. I must admit I have been absent browsing on here as well as going to the shows. I really must find that enthusiasm again....
Well I ended up making it there in my Innocenti Cooper 1300 export KEH, it was in the display bit in the middle next to me dads blue one, was a cracking drive down and the weather got a lot better for the show. Was a great show, one of my favourite years, lots of bits and bobs not that I was buying due to funds. But was good to see such great cars on show, was trying to find a colour for my new project and this show helped a lot.

Will post some pics in a bit.
Got some pics of the red 1071 I will post up later. Looked a nice find, think it was a D plate.
There were a couple of lovely early blue mk1 racers in the ex works and competition car area.
I think it's great that James Martin, as a MCR club member, takes the time and trouble to attend Beaulieu. He had two cars there on dispaly 8EMO and OBL48F on the Ex-Works display. He was also very happy to chat and give of his time - the sight and sound of his Ferrari was an added bonus. A top man and a real car enthusiast.

It was re registered as a D when it was plate raped in period I think. As was not uncommon with early cars (mine included) it originally had a sexy number from a vintage car on it from date of first registration, possibly transferred from a part ex.

Thanks. Wondered what was with the D plate.
Do you know the approx build date? Took the pics as reference for my October 63 car.
