Another great thread. Maybe the Forum could arrange a few nationwide courses for budding car salesmen. Both in the trade and private too. A week long course on how to squeeze the last vestiges of honesty and how to insert all of the words and phrases that we've learned here.

That said, there must already be some courses running already. Perhaps at some of the mickey mouse uni's. Because nobody would naturally know or pick-up all of the double-talk and garbage that seems to flow once they start........

Think about iit Mark....... Courses for car sales execs in writing sales blurb

"Mint in my opinion "
"Huge December Price Drop "
Was driven 100 miles to us on delivery, which should tell you of its mechanical condition .
"Tyres look good & will have years of life left in them "
"Finest Quality OEM Bits fitted wherever possible" :?
Verified to be Matching Numbers.

Parts Sales .. Now converted to Metric Thread to eradicate cross threading

"ULEZ friendly "

Sick of seeing this, do they really think this will increase the likelihood of a sale ?.

A long time ago I used to know a guy in the old car world called John Lunn, a nice fella, and a proper old school wheeler dealer, and I remember him telling me that his claim to fame was coining the phrase "it's condition is commensurate with age" in adverts (or it might have been sales descriptions in auction catalogues) and that it means exactly what you want it to mean, as a buyer or a seller (or a lawyer.....)

He did also buy a very old Aston Martin in well worn, one might almost say 'Barn find' condition which everyone else passed over as it needed everything and was fairly uninspiring to look at. It was only once he paid that he pointed out "Oh look, it's the oldest surviving Aston in the World!" with a grin as wide as his profit margin. No slouch, John.

Have we had any 'sensible offers'?
Never would have sold at the fantasy figure, so open the window a little, but I dont want to hear what someone with real money, commitment and time to come and get it will actually give me for it.

Lengthy positive description (of a more modern car) followed by three final (grave) words 'part service history'.

Or... service book lost by previous owner but you can tell it's been well looked after.

You could also flip this topic to most overused excuses for not turning up, not buying a car or daftest questions asked. I had a guy called Sam (U.K. Minis bloke) failed to show up five times for a GT I sold a couple of years ago. Five times! True story!

Yes, translates as, " everyone that has come to see it has run a mile so I'm just waiting for some mug who doesn't know what they're looking at"

Ah, yes..... obfuscating language. Shortly after the local police sold of their 3 totally thrashed to death up and down the M4, M40 and M1 - and unmarked MGB GT V8 pursuit cars, one was being sold on by a classic car dealer as being an ex police car. He stated that according to the first and only recorded owner being the Chief Constable but, it was probably the car supplied to the Chief constables wife or even his private secretary.

There...... like all ex cop cars...... One owner but thrashed to within an inch of its life by 100 boy-racer cops

There is an ad on EBay at the moment for a 1967 Cooper with engine out, grey roof, red interior for 14k . it’s a 850 probably fiddled with years ago . Quote “ with a heavy heart “. Heavy wallet if he gets 14K
