Fair point.  . Variety is the spice of life as they say and I’ve really enjoyed the cars. Some of them I really just couldn’t figure out a long term plan for ultimately. I’ve got a track car on the go now aswell which I’m in a conundrum what colour to paint, possibly the Newtune colours seeing as this one’s going back to Aurora colour scheme.

More history stuff later, here’s the starting point as I got the car. It’s the correct Tartan Red underneath and inside so that’s staying.

Obviously this isn’t a restoration thread in the conventional sense because it’s already had plenty of panels but we’ve definitely sorted a few little things out from the older resto. The original holes for the tank straps and vent pipes were easy to find. There was some work to do on the front scuttle and the O/S B post, N/S roof drip rail, fettling the panel gaps, badge positions etc but wasn’t that long before we got to primer.

I managed to pick up some nice bits over the years like the Springall wheel I’m putting back on it, some nice mag rose petals from the States which I never found the right car for but am now really glad I got (off to get restored shortly) , might have found a couple of Contour 6s that I think Anita had in it but looking for a harness, anyone recognise this type of harness?

Thanks Tim.

During 1964 Ford filmed a good number races featuring Jim Clark which luckily caught 110 NNM in the races, so I have colour footage of the car at Oulton Park, Aintree and Brands Hatch. Steve McQueen also filmed the Brands Hatch 6 Hour race in ‘64 and some of his cracking colour footage was recently featured in the Lost Movie on Sky and Trevor Taylor’s Aurora car that he shared with Anita can clearly be seen.

Bit fuzzy but this is a screen grab from Aintree..

The ‘crimson’ stripe was guesswork but it looked pretty deep on washed out old colour photos so I knew it had to be darker than the pictures. Here’s what we came up with and I think the two colours work well together. I decided to continue the stripe down to the bottom of the rear valance and front panel.

Before the stripe went on I had to decide whether to add the yellow front panel or not which it had to distinguish it from the other team car of Trevor’s. I wasn’t too keen on the idea at first but decided I may as well go the whole hog. Roundels went on , badges sorted. Number plate next..

Thanks, it’s coming on! Oulton again, still 1071 at this point but changed to 1275 by Brands Hatch as all the Minis did in the British Saloon Car Championship during 1964, the works cars first of course then pretty much all followed suit.

Looks fantastic Pete. That was definitely the colour scheme to go back to.
All that history!
