This is a cracking good thread.

Lots of good tips & tricks, I particularly like the idea of drilling a hole all the way down the pin, it would certainly make it easier.

Personally, I have jubs that I really hate doing on a Mini, doing the clevis pins has never been one of them. Can't say I have ever really had much bother. I just put them in by hand. Bending the split pins however. . . . . . That's a different story!

Before anyone suggests it, I don't like using R clips because I had one come out once. It didn't cause a problem, but it did make me go a bit "funny" when I found that my brake had had no split pin in it for an indeterminate length of time.

Here is a thought on R clips which I havent used on a mini but plenty elsewhere. Perhaps the problem is choice:
because for a 5/16 pin there are 2 or 3 if the parts shop give you a 2mm one!
1.2mm fit Clevis Pin shaft dia 3/16 to 5/16
1.5mm fit Clevis Pin shaft dia 1/4 to 3/8
2.0mm fit Clevis Pin shaft dia 3/8 to 1/2
Could it be you need the first one as it will be a tighter fit although thinner pin?
Or could it be the mini clevis has the hole to near the end and the pin can turn and fall out?
Anyway just a thought.
