Yes it was a good day at Oulton yesterday even though the entries and spectator numbers were down on previous years.

There were some nice cars to see in the displays which included the Irene Waite Austin Seven...

...and Bernies latest restoration of a 1071S, which has some excellent details.

I have plenty of track shots to get through and will post these up later, in the meantime here's Tim Brook having a moment after exiting Old Hall in race one. Luckily it did dig in too much and roll down Cascades!

Oops  I’ll try not to do that again, guess it explains where all the soil has come from!

Excellent day out, thanks Pete.

Impressive display by the mighty Hornet.

The paddock area had a great club racing atmosphere, a credit to all the Historic racers there.

Well that was a great weekend! Had a few things to sort on the car pre event including new wheel bearings, detached rear subframe, just small stuff!  . I had two spare tyres and the four on the car from Chimpney. Enough rubber for the two races if all went well. Went to Shelsley for a little shakedown (social event really) and got a problem with the starter switch. Got to Oulton on Sunday and on the way to scrutineering suddenly got a huge flood of fuel into the car. Fuck!! I was ten yards from the scrutineering bay on the car’s first ever race with the HSCC and I’m sat in a car flooded with fuel! I blagged some mopping up gear from a nearby race outfit and then looked for and fixed the fault - a loose filter bowl. Pushed the car into scrutineering (just in case!) and then met the HSCCs chief scrutineer who couldn’t find my paperwork! Fuck!! . Anyway I found a digital copy on my phone and got through scrutineering which was pretty intense but very funny! Back to the paddock and then off to fuel up.

Simon Goodliff was already walking the circuit before I even got up! . He’s one of my best mates but even if he wasn’t I’d still be in awe of how seriously competitive he is. He’d been round Oulton more times than he can remember and even won FJ races outright here but not for a few years! The car we knew has the potential to punch above its weight with Simon in it so I was pretty excited to see how he’d do. There were some decent Minis on the grid and good drivers including some late entries like Phil House and a couple of Anglias, no decent Imps though really to spoil our fun. Simon qualified 7th and 2nd quickest Mini so we were happy with that. When it came to the race he finished a fab third overall and won the class, I couldn’t have hoped for anything better than that! Over the moon! :)
The brakes needed looking at though for the 2nd race later in the afternoon so we changed pads and fluid. Simon wasn’t quite happy with the handling either so Terry changed a couple of things, and hoped it’d be better. Simon started from 3rd but in amongst the Yank tanks so my heart was pounding as they went piling into Old Hall for the first time. Simon got jumped , even by a Mini or two (Timo Harber!) and was well back in 7th by the end of the first lap only for the race to be stopped after Belcher’s Tina stopped and one of the Mustangs hit Ebdon. The restart took an age but he managed to get back to fourth pretty quickly and challenging another Tina for 3rd which despite holding him up he didn’t quite manage to pass. It wasn’t until he got back into the paddock that we realised he’d done virtually the whole race with little if no brakes :? having to pump 'em three or four times every single time to get a peddle!! :? . Oddly a few seemed to be having the same problem during the day, but Oulton is hard on the brakes!
So fourth overall in the second race it was and another class win. More importantly the car was unscathed, still running like a train and we’d all had a great time. Thanks for all the well wishes during the day and to all the forumers for bringing their cars down, especially Bill and Trev. Right .. need a good lie down now.

Our first time ever at Oulton  and thoroughly enjoyed a (very) long day.
Mini had a little oopsie on the way down with a loose electrical connector which delayed us so we headed off the motorway and promptly hit loads of traffic  Was faultless after i found and fixed it though.
Loads to see over the day which meant very little time back at the excellent display of cars though.

Congrats to Pete with the mutants success and thanks for sorting the tickets.

Now to sort through the hundreds of photos i took...

You were following my wife out and in the usual traffic at the end of Coach Road, she said it was quite noisy. I appreciated it, lovely car

LOL, yeah noisier than usual! the front bumper was vibrating like mad at idle, incredibly annoying in traffic
Normally its just the sc drops chattering away that gets people, I was in a queue at Bella Auto show in June and the TVR owner in front got out and walked round the back of his car to see what was falling off and then realised it was just me idling behind him...

Outsiders view. Loads of views too so it tells you something about modern young'uns

Best thing for me was seeing the driver of the Anglia. Talk about energetic! I think Stuart might put up my footage from race 1 and you will see what I mean , top effort at keeping an unwilling car on the track . It was nice to have someone to play with
