For what it is worth, to my eyes early Minis look best with chrome or otherwise polished mirrors. I have a Mk2 (see avatar) and that is what I use on it.

As there are many choices available, much comes down to what you like as well as feel best suits your car. Perhaps you can find something similar that was available in the 60's in Portugal (or Spain)?

Below is a still from the 1965 British film The Collector showing a wing mirror fitted to an early Morris Cooper.

Those type of old photos are great to see what really was used 'back in the day'.

Good luck in your research. :)

I am fairly sure that I have a good condition used case that you can have if needs be.
Mark, sorry I missed your post before.
I'll try to get the original one repaired. Failing that, I'll get back to you. Thank you.

Very nice car, I love the patina,

Just a quick question, you seems to run with twin H4, spacers between carb and manifold,

But normally it doesn't fit on LHD car because of the master cylinder

Can you make a picture for us?

thank you

Of course I can do that for you.
I think it's because it has the small fuel bowls.

Many thanks

It's very kind,

I didn't know there were different floatbowls size, only different angle for me, anyone knows?

There is no spacer that's why it fits properly without touching the master cylinder

Hi Mário,

congratulations for the car, what a find!

These last pictures are very interesting. They have cut the air filter just the right amount to make it fit. And yes, the float bowls are the smaller T1 ones, AUC8402/03. The left one has to be pushed to the front to avoid touching the master cylinder, that's why it doesn't look perfectly vertical.

At the moment I'm strugling to fit a pair of long carb bodies together with a long manifold and had to find 2 AUC8414 floats as the 8415, if fitted, would be in the exact place of the master cylinder. My strugle is, however, the choke levers and brackets touching the bulkhead panel.

Keep showing these interesting details!

Bloody hell.

That wants a reasonable - but not too good - paint job back to grey/white and absolutely nothing else. Original chrome, badges etc. I'm not a fan of tatty cars but that is a thing of beauty needing just a mild titivation.

I guess someone at Downton must have known what they were doing!... :D

The car that made the biggest impact on me and allways influenced my choice of Minis was 860MW and the "Mini-ton-bomb" review that i used to read over and over.
To be able to own this car ís a dream come true.

All Downton exhaust systems were made by Burgess of Hinckley in Leicestershire to Downton's own designs. These silencers were a key part of the "Downton sound".
