Be assured, a slightly wonky badge, possibly run over, or lost and replaced with a cheap one, does not make the best and most original car somehow another of your fakes!
The bonnet, and all the sticky letters is sooo Abingdon, and sooo hard to replicate in that way.
Have you tried AA Pete?
No Im quite happy with the RAC!
I never implied it was a fake just to clarify, as you know very well Guy!
I am however really please that an ex works Mini owner wants to contribute to discussions like this, a very rare happening! yes some do get some flak uneccessarily, but it shouldn't put you off if you're right and as well informed as you are Guy.

looks like we are running out of other works cars still in Abingdon shells mind !, obviously there is Guys LRX as well (again a similar situation to Pauls 309D, but still Abingdon shells, lets not get hung up on them though please.
what about our Irish brothers ?, must be a genuine Abingdon shell Works car over there ?
Thank you Steve, there are about ten genuine ex-Abingdon Minis over here in Northern Ireland. I'm planning to do a feature on them later this year to be posted on http://www.minicooperforum.org As a region, Northern Ireland would have the largest number from what I have been told. There are also a good number of ex-Abingdon MGs, and ex-works BL cars over here I'm very pleased to say

I think my take on it is that I just like the idea of there still being the actual car (basically the shell, identity plus all the bits and bobs) that actually competed with say Timo, Paddy, Rauno, Tony etc etc , and actually competed on the Monte or the Tulip, RAC etc, being able to see the actual car and get the feeling when you sit in that the greats have driven it !

Don't get me wrong i still like the idea of a car with continuous history, but the above just interests me more for the reasons above !
I know a lot of the Irish cars were re-shelled in there post Abingdon life as were a lot of the UK Motoring News road rally cars and have continuous history

sorry I meant all the 'normal' minis that did it, not famous works one
Peter Robinson left no stone unturned in seeking out entry lists and results of the earlier MN rounds (61 onwards) for the relevant volumes of "Memory Lanes". The records simply no longer exist for many of the earlier events - and may not have done ever with registration numbers included, as there was no regulation requiring public listing of registration numbers of entered cars then.

That is ( to the best of our knowledge ! ) true......we have fairly recently been in touch with the current owner in the USA who totally understands and appreciates the current GRX 309D situation.

737 ABL did several events, mainly with Pauline Mayman, she also used works Morris 1100 and MG1100. Many items in Peters book were provided by myself, more items have come to light since it went to press.

Suggest you add any 737ABL MN appearances beyond Moss' one to the database as it's obviously a couple of years too late for the "The Beginning" book now.
Not for the Mini database, but the exhaust from one of the 1100s may still be where it ended up then.
As I have made very clear in the past, I have very little interest in Red & White Minis, but it is great to see such a healthy, respectful, lively debate on the subject.
I am testing my memory here but I seem to remember seeing XJB 308H in Taunton as a shakedown for the Scottish Rally in 1970. Rally would have been Rallye Bristol, Tavern National or Moors or similar. Could be wrong I am getting old. Cheers. Brian
