In the bodyshop where I worked, we used old newspapers for masking. After a while though the boss realized that this was slowing down the throughput of work as we spent quite a bit of time reading the articles and looking at the pictures
We went onto rolls of brown paper after that which he had to pay for, but we got more work done!

Has anyone had experience with Plasti Dip? Looks like a cheap and quick fix for colour change

If you Google it you'll find a video where a guy shows you the process painting an Audi on the drive. Seems nice and amateur-friendly

Thinking of what wacky paint one could do for Blyton etc...

Tim Harber wrote:Finally found pics of before and after on Harrison car. These were the main pics that gave the detail on how to repaint it. Very few exist - these were just as it went into the workshop to return it to black after he passed it on. He then decided to have the car back and asked for the graphics to be reinstated. All the books that had provided the illustrations were sourced from his collection again and made to fit . After two years or so my mate finished it (airbrushing) and he asked whether he could take the airbrushing off and re-do it by hand , as had been done originally..

Look at the Pat & Tina on that...! Many thanks for sharing those photos Tim, pretty much holy grail stuff as Beatles related pics go ;)

I wonder of the original raised digit number plates are hanging on Olivia Harrison's garage wall at Friar Park...

I've not seen any contemporary shots of the rear of that car, so hard to tell if it's unchanged from original (pre resto I mean).

Interesting that the badges have been put on so wonky, you'd not think that was done at Radford (they probably masked round 'em! ) when it was black or even when it was repainted psychedelic. I wonder if it had the boot lid replaced at some point?
Harrison did keep it outside under a tree by all accounts and at one point was just a home for his potted plants so not surprising it gained a little patina. Clapton owned it for a while in the early 70's aswell didn't he. Did it have an aerial on the back?

The badges are still pretty wonky and yes, shame the original plates have gone awol...

George in yet another Mini, looks like a '63 or '64 Super De Luxe, maybe the one that ended up 'orange'?

Not sure if it had an ariel on the back Pete, I'll have a gander at my archive pics.

As for the original Bluemels plates, they're the originals in Tim's 'before' pics, matching up with all the older pics I have of the car from '66 onwards and the Magical Mystery Tour footage shot in September '67. Lennon's black Radford S had the same style plates too.

Has anyone seen any pics of the interior when George owned it / was the interior replaced or modified when the car was restored...?

Edit : Pete, your b&w shot could well be the orange car before it was repainted, the door string pulls suggest it's an 850 and not the Almond Green & O.E. White Cooper I thought it might be having seen a pic of one in George's garage somewhere, with a white Aston DB5 alongside it. Looking at Georges hair in that pic I reckon it was taken late '65 or early '66, possibly by the 'Beatles Monthly' in house photographer. Your earlier shot of George wearing the groovy shades sitting in the black Radford was taken on 20/5/66 on location at Chiswick House, West London during the filming of the Rain / Paperback Writer promo ;) God this is getting truly anal but I do love these cars!

Only a couple of months after being registered then. Peter Harrison's being registered in early November '65 featured the latest GT spec dash (ie not the Paddy Gaston job that McCartney's had), I wonder if Harrison's was like that or something more bespoke? As you say, I've not seen contemporary interior shots of it and neither have I seen the interior as it is now. Pauline Harrison told me both cars were at Radford at the same time but I suspect that Peter's was done and delivered slightly prior to George's going in. Anyone got a picture of the interior of LGF 695D?

KMT 498C does seem to be the same car George is sat in pictured above but not sure if it's the orange car pictured previously in 1967 with it's Cosmics and sunroof, a Radford conversion? If you look closely at the rear number plate of the orange car it doesn't look like KMT.

If I zoom the picture all I can make out is *UU 7**C on the orange car.

And here's some more pics of LGF when it was on display at MINI United in 2009

GUU 707C? Which is a central London October '65 registration, KMT being a slightly earlier registration.

Anyone know how much this is?

It's meant to be Cathy Boyd's car. I heard they want £40k for it less than half what the HB went for with the facel vega head lights. Seemingly Cathys car needs to be freshened up.

I know it's been linked with Pattie Boyd but never seen any provenance. The only pictures I've seen of Boyd with a Mini are very fuzzy black and white low res images that don't really prove anything, no number plate etc. Several people have emailed her over the years about it and had no response. She was pictured with a Moke I do remember.

Hard to believe thare wouldn't be any Paparatzi (how do you spell that correctly?) shots of George / Patti showing the registration if it was a car of theirs.
Surely their every move would be photographed by the papers & fans.

Pete - it looks like the little gubbins below the rear screen on George's car was the mounting for the rear wiper...

Somewhere there's a pic of the orange 850, 'GUU 707C' in the car park at Abbey Road with George being dropped off for a White album session in '68, clearly showing the reg' number, it's appeared in at least two Fabs books that I know of. I've got it on a disc somewhere... can I find it? Can I heck. It was taken through the window of the reception area by a studio employee, along with shots of Paul and Ringo arriving. In the meantime here's another of George's DB5...

Going back to the two interior shots of Lennon's car - these were most likely taken by his ex-school mate, ex-Quarry Man and Apple employee Pete Shotton who lived at Kenwood with John for part of '68, often being his unofficial chauffeur. In his book about John he describes driving around in it with the new fangled stereo playing very loudly.

Apparently all three shots at the beginning of this thread (plus a few other 'non car' shots) were taken by a certain Michael Herring, a 19 year old art student who simply door-stepped Lennon one day in May 1968. Lennon apparently took him in the back of his Mini down to Harrison's house (Kinfauns) where Ringo was also in attendance. The pics have been around for a while, in low res, but the story behind them only surfaced in a Daily Mail online article recently (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... ocket.html ).
Maybe he sold the pictures as they're copyrighted, as most decent Beatles pictures are. Similarly the pictures I used for a Nesmith Radford article a while back cost about £40 each to get permission use!

Here is the (possibly) Patty Boyd car at Steve's with my woody behind. Steve was pretty confident that it had belonged to her.
