Also accompanied by a change of rev counter with a different red line - 6500 rpm on the 3.65:1 early cars and 6000 rpm thereafter on the 3.44:1.

The change from 3.65 to 3.44 occurred around May/June 1971 at the same time (give or take a week or two) as dry replaced Hydro.

The 6500 to 6000 rev counter change meant that the GT could use the Marina 1800 TC rev counter. 1.8 Supers were 5500 iirc.

The early GTs were rated at 59 BHP then from 74 to 80 they were 54BHP how did they loose that 5 brake?

Early GTs used an AEG 538 cam, later ones used an AEG 523. Also there was a change in distributor type.

Looks like the power and torque quoted changed more than once. Top set of figures is from the original 1969 brochure, middle set from 1973, and bottom set from 1975. The quoted figures did not change again.


PS 69.5ft/lbs = 9.59 kgm, so torque dropped as well.

Hi Guys and Girls,

Finally got approved to the board this morning and want to share my project with you as it nears completion. It's a '76 with a genuine 32,000 miles on the clock. All original, proper interior, wheels and trims etc, with rock solid, original floor and sills, all bolts as I've been stripping it down for paint even, are just coming undone. I've never had a classic car like it, let alone a mini!

My only concern is the paint colour. Now I've been through ALL of the included images on this thread, I've tried to match up what I have (I believe 'Regal' interior and door cards) with the docs in the forum and the paint. To my untrained eye, whilst I've been stripping it (ignoring the crap, thin layer of darker paint someone put on more recently) the paint is Pageant Blue... this doesn't tie up with the 'Regal/Navy' interior... Tahiti would, but I'm of the mind tahiti is too much darker than the car to be the case.

Given Austin/Morris/MGs notoriety for using what was 'in the parts bucket' at the time, could this actually be the case, and it is pageant blue with regal interior after all, the 76 was sort of a change over year from all the docs I can find...

Will post up some pics soon, you guys may have seen it on a few sites including Facebook back in Jan/Feb

I would have thought Tahiti Blue was the more likely shade on a 1976 car?
Good luck with your project. The 1275GTs are certainly becoming more appreciated now.

Pageant blue arrived in mid 1978 on the Princess 2, then on the Mini, Marina, Allegro, Maxi and MGB/Midget.

Can anyone tell me what should be the proper appearance for the inside of the bonnet on a 72 GT? Painted bare metal with perforated sound pads? Or something else?
