Little bit of progress in my domestic garage in last few days ....

Front wings self tapped and clamped in place. A few things to alter here and there, mostly on the n/s inner wing rail that isn't quite right. Overall, I'm quite pleased with the initial fit.

Front panel modified to Mk1 spec. including changing the slam panel to a Mk1 panel from the original front panel from a previous build.

Bonnet has been used as a table in the past to red oxide prime small bits and pieces

Well I wasn't planning to but the general consensus of opinion dictates that I should

I think I can rescue the ones from the panel I tool the slam panel section from :)

If you don't, you'll always regret it Andrew. I did them on mine and although it was a bit of work, I was glad I did. A Mk1 with Mk4 front always looks wrong to me. I also swapped the landing panel because the late one os SO wrong. Heritage ought to be ashamed of themselves for pretending that their "Mk1 front panel" is anything like correct.......

Great to see some more progress :)

I suppose we should be grateful that there is such range of panels available, but it would be better if they were a bit better described so as to not fool those of us who are not quite as well educated in all things Mini.

Nice. Those gaps are way too good though.

Well done Andrew. You know it makes sense ;) You've already done MUCH harder jobs on HOY. I would post the pictures of how I did mine but I seem to have "lost" them. They were also on my old restoration thread on the old MCR forum.....

Hahah! Yep, you’re straying from the ‘factor fresh’ look a bit there Andrew.

Looks great!

Yeah maybe, but remember its only held on with self tappers and mole grips so may move when welded up

Yes worth the effort, small difference but noticeable

Well done Andrew. I'm much happier now ;) You can now wander around all those summer car shows looking at other people's Minis whose owners didn't bother doing that. And feel better about yours.

Andy, surely that plinth rectification or retro-modification deserves a small tech article in its own right. To be honest, I've never even noticed the difference before I read it here and made a couple of comments. But MUST be worth a separate write-up for other restorers......... when you've got time!

Hi Pierre,

Welcome to the Mk1 Forum and thank you for your kind comments about my project.

It is and has always been my aim to be open and transparent about the rebuild of HOY 500D. I have no intentions of selling it once finished and therefore have no need to hide anything about it.

Hopefully the project and thread will be an inspiration to other people who have what many consider to be a 'beyond hope' restoration project, to show what can be done, even in a 'domestic' garage !

This forum is by far and away the best Mini forum you will find for help and knowledge :)
